lads, i gone done a while back for 124 mph on my gsxr 1000. dual carrigeway, dry, very little traffic, sunday 10.30pm. i'm being charged with dangerous driving but trying to get it dropped to speeding. 3 points in the last 12 years. looks like the 2 wheeled boys are geting a hammering compared to the cars. there been a few bike deaths up here(Aberdeen) recently. any comparisons with similar stuff?? cheers Willie

A "bloke down the pub, once told me" he went past a BIB with a speed gun at around 130 but his mate a mile down the road had already stopped someone, terefore he just cracked on.
Another time he was doing around 90 on a 50 and a biker BIB pulled up beside him, gestured for him to slow down, and sped off.

He's learnt his lesson now though, as I hope you have?!

Good luck in getting the charges reduced.

come on chilli get off the high horse. most of us on here have done higher speeds than that, when conditions allow, stop the preaching.

To the OP pepipoo is the place for that kind of advice. good luck but dont get your hopes up.

well i never expected that responce
my names not ghostrider...
i'm not condoning speed by any means, ie conjested areas, outside schools etc.
if the road conditions allow it, who hasn't done this kind of thing?
any biker who hasn't done this on a large capacity sports bike or similar is a liar IMO.
whats the point of owning such machinery to brag about it down the pub etc.
theres obvously a lot more to bikes than than straight line speed.
i've owned a lot of different types of bikes in my time, still do in fact.

thats me off my soapbox, you can now go & talk shite about how wonderfull the new ducati is...

The speed on its own own is irrelevant. Any other environmental variables that could be taken into consideration? Dangerous driving seems like a particularly harsh charge unless there's something you're not telling us?

Afraid I agree with Clownfish...

If you want to razz then go on a track, that speed on a public road aint on, if you had been nicked in a car at 120+ you'd get banned same for a bike. Just take it on the chin, can't see any way you'll avoid a ban...

yes, its a fair cop.i've vowed never to own i sports bike again. anything up that rate of speed's going to get a serious talking to. problem is it wasn't a everyday thing for me. but try & tell that to the procurator
guess i'll stick to the supermoto's from now on..
in 10 years time i'd be surprised if the large capacity bikes will still be on sale.
might have to move down south, have you seen knockhill?? it's all we've got up here!!

I'm not sure you would get the same treatment car versus bike, which is what w111pac was commenting on. I'm sure there's a site which records penalty received versus speed somewhere.

Its only a number. I can name a few places, which under the right conditions, it would be safe to do 120mph.

Oh FFS, its not only safe in a huge amount of places to do 120 in either bike or car, its actually pleasureable. The fact that its remarkably unremarkable to get there on anything modern and faired doesnt really add up to a dangerous driving charge.
Nobody will argue that the OP deserves a speeding charge, but unless there are other circs that he's not telling us (like he was filtering between static traffic at that speed) then actually try and think of the difference between dangerous driving and speeding.

PS I understand that if you'd like to get off the high horse, there's a lovely fence over there you could sit on.

Give these guys a call. They'll give you some free advice over the phone and will then act for you if you request. They're currently dealing with a NIP issue for me. Ask for Hillary Kenway. She's the practise manager and will get things rolling.

I think car or bike the average person is going to get a ban at 120+. You may be able to employ a good lawyer that could get you off but that would apply whether you were on a bike or in a car.

Either way I dont have a problem with banning people at that speed.

Plenty of Bib drivers/riders regularly maintain 120+

Are they all dangerous?
