please help , any ideas welcome

96 chim 4.0 foxguard alarm system

Came go get in my car today and first of all the doors wouldnt unlock with the remote.

i managed to gain access the emergency way and then realised that i had no alarm/immobaliser light flashing .

turn the ingition on and all the lights come on including the immobalisr light . but thats it the car wont start .the fuel pump dosent kick in like it should .

im sure its all linked to the alarm system , ive checked all the fuses in the fuse box , are there any more hidden which i dont know about ????.

everything else in the car works perfectly .

please help , im sure its something simple ???

Is your battery good? (ie. will it turn over, do the headlights come on brightly)

it wont turn over because the immobiliser wont turn off . lights and everything else work fine.

You are getting close to the "grey area" of how alarms operate.............not all alarms immobilise the starter, but some do...........typical TVR lottery!!

Please check that your Fob battery is OK.

You could disconnect battery, then reconnect, following the Alarm re-syn instructions and try again.

Is the battery really fully charged ??

Are your door Pin switches clean and working?

Hope some of that helps.

Sounds like the remote has dropped off the memory, do you have a second remote to try?

Are these the 2 button remotes(plus LED) and are you sure at least one of them has a battery that is the full 12v?

i am 99% sure the remote batterys are ok ,

i dont think its them because the immobiliser light on the dash is not on , and only comes on when you turn the ignition on

Have you tried putting a 12v direct feed to small connection on the starter solenoid to see if the car cranks?

That would help narrow down the problem to the alarm/immob rather than the car electrics.

tried that a few mins ago . car turns over nicely but wont run because the fuel pump dosent kick in

normally when i turn the ingition on the fuel pump kicks in straight away , or if immob on just click the button and it comes to life,

what is baffling me more than anything is the fact that the immob light is not on when the ingition isnt , if i recall correncty it should flash .

Have you tried to crank the car with a low battery recently, if the voltage drops enough whilst cranking that can cause this to happen?

Either way I would assume the alarm has thrown a wobbler for whatever reason, wipe the remote memory and then program the 2 remotes back on and try that.

It's a bit of a saga, PM me and I will mail the instructions over to you.

NB: The programming button is the one down the hole nearest the flick switches!

ETA: You need access to the alarm unit to do it.

Try bypassing the immobilisor???
Try turning the engine over and see if you have got a spark???

Also the fuse for the fuel pump could be on one of the lose cables in the passenger footwell. There are tow lose relays and there are also 2 lose fuses 20 and 30 amp. Make sure the fuse holder has not become slack as well.

An interloper from the S series forum here but i have an idea.. You state that the alarm/immob led is not lit until you turn on ignition??? If this is the case it sounds like the permanent live supply for alarm is not there. This is probably on a fuse in the wiring somewhere close to the alarm unit, would suggest you check that (there will likely be atleast 2 fuses in avrious wires, check em all). Another idea, if the alarm/immob comes live with ignition on (led lights) can you then disarm with keyfob and ignition on? maybe it will start that way. Just a couple of guesses, kinda hard without chasing round the thing with multimeter.
Good luck,
Carl.

thanks ceejay

thats right the immob light isnt on untill the ignition is turned on , but i still cant turn it off then,

maybe there is a fuse or 2 in the wiring for the immob.

can anyone give me an idea of where these may be ..
