I'm sure this has been asked a million times before, but is there a general concensus of opinion on what the best tyre for general road use is?

Is there much difference between Michelin, Bridgestone and Conti? Pros and cons for each?

Ta!

I find toyo proxes t1-r pretty good, especially in wet. I'm on design 90 wheels on a S2

Not Michelin Pilot Sports. Have swapped from pair of generally fine Conti Sport Contact 2 onto these, and while they are great in the dry, they light up very very easily in the wet. Amusing, but its going to get me nicked soon..

I haven't tried anything else than Bridgestone S-02 and Toyo Proxes F1S and both have proved pretty good in various conditions.
The S-02 stick a bit more but make for quite less progressive slides than the F1S.

FYI I did some brake testing a couple of months ago in my S2 using a performance meter. The 60mph to zero braking on 3/4 worn Toyo T1-s on pretty average UK b road averaged out to something like:
dry road = 127 feet
soaking wet greasy road = 150 feet.
Note that my front disks were fairly worn so not 100% in my opinion.
Note also that a lot of the increase in the wet was due to the ABS going crazy at low speeds on such greasy roads. On slightly wet roads or on a better surface it would have been more like 140 feet. This is with stock tyre sizes of 205x55-16 on front and 225x50-16 rears. With more than the 3mm to 4mm or so of tread I had on the rears the wet braking would have been better still. T1-R supposedly slightly better alround then T1-S so I know where I will be going for my next tyres.
