Gents,
Apologies but I am looking for some advice. I am venturing into the Caterham World (how many times have you heard that on this site)and have seen a Caterham which suits my first buy. Have 25k to spend and have a R300 SV up for sale on the official Caterham website in mind. Seems to have all the toys and I am only looking for a weekend car and occasional track days throughout the year. They have on for 24500k is this about rigt for this type of car or am I best going elsewhere. Thought it being official dealer be better piece of mind. Many thanks

You are exactly right re peace of mind factor; you get a warranty for a short space of time too I think. On the downside, that seems quite a high price. Have a look at Blatchat if you have not done so already.... www.blatchat.com/T.asp?id=115216... for instance. I reckon Caterham are selling at 4-5k over the private price. 20k should be more than doable and I've seen them for less I think I remember.
Most Caterham owners are fastidious in the maintenance department and the cars see very little action. Add to that they are not rocket science and the risk of buying privately might be seen as reducing. You can always pay someone to inspect a car for you for a few hundred.
So, if I was buying now I'd go private. That being said my first two came from Caterham, but I've just changed my view over time!

Buying a car from CC does give good peace of mind especially for anyone who has never owned a seven before. However, as JimmySLR says they do carry a premium (obviously, otherwise why else be in business) but I don't think its as much as £4-5k but probably more like £2-3k. A lot of CC stock is going to be Sale or Return to owners looking to sell their cars and CC then have to service, provide warranty, tax and do other small jobs in their end of the deal plus get back a return for their overhead.
Best VFM option is to buy private and if you need any advice, speak to the Area Organiser whose details are shown in Low Flying or from the L7CGB website. Usually they will give good independent advice and may even know the car for sale.
Condition and spec sell Caterhams esp the high value items that are more difficult or costly to retrofit such as dry sump, 6 speed box, LSD.

i just need to be bothered to take some pics and get it up for sale
but i might wait till spring now when the market will be better
although if i can be bothered then i may get an advert out in teh next few weekends but expecting a new member of the family any day NOW! so cars are on extra low priority
have to say it looks fab, everything cosmetic on it from the skin to the rims, wishbones, cage, seat, headlights etc.. is new and undriven so basically it looks like a brand new unregistered car !
