Noticed a funny smell recently in the car. Wife blamed me! On closer inspection I have found a very wet drivers side foot well. Can't see where the water is getting in. Read in an Autocar review something about water getting in on certain age of mini. Any ideas on what the issue is our how to fix it?
Cheers for the help.

My guess would be that it is either a rubber seal that has perished or that the membrane between the door casing and the door card has become loose.

Check out your heating system, cooling system fluid levels make sure its not that, have you had a windscreen replaced ? If so might not be properly sealed, check all the plugs/seals are fitted to the floorpan.

Water ingress generally comes from;
A,The 'A' pillar-on the outside where the side gutter turns to meet the screen-It is held on by a clip which has a foam washer-these fall off/perish/tear.
B,dead centre top of the windscreen-when they bonded the screens in at the factory they failed to put enough sealer in the centre leaving a pin hole.This will need the screen out and resealed.
C,door card.These dont have a membrane as the door card is designed in such away that it sits back into the door frame.what they do have is a rubber seal,which if the panel has been taken off the seal may have been disturbed or snagged.
D,The steering column gaiter that goes into the baulkhead(bottom of the column)-these fall out.
E,If you have had spot lights fitted then check the routing of the wiring through the baulk head-around the brake servo area is where it normally comes through(bonnet cable grommet).
F,If it is sweet smelling(antifreeze)then heater matrix.
G,'A' pillar block connector-wiring harness for door-its held on by an 8mm bolt-had those loose.
H,The O/S door glass is out of adjustment or the window fails to go up when door is shut.

I have never had a leak from the run off for the Aircon evaperator-unless the heater/dash have been out I doubt its that.

Think thats it-anymore i'll let you know.
P/s if you get a leak at the rear-Third brake light housing everytime

I suspect is A, due to roof beinf wet and the floor. I read about this in Autocar. Spoke to Mini Chiswick who denied any knowledge of such a thing happening.
Any advice on where I can take the car to get the issue checked/resolved. I hear BMW Heathrow are a good bet? If not happy to take to an independant.
