Hi Guy's,

As a new owner (had the 04 VXR for a week now), I'm starting to get used to the car, but I have a couple of problems which may point to the lifestyle the car has had with a previous owner!

1. Twice I have had trouble engaging 1st gear, had to go into 2nd first then back into 1st before it would select-The gear lever wouldn't move into the gate.

2. In a mega traffic jam on the M25 last Tuesday night, I noticed a heavy clunking noise, that appeared to be coming from the rear of the car as I let the clutch out in 1st gear - only notice when edging along slowly in traffic and not able to change up a gear, sounds like a bit of back lash in a CV joint or in the diff.

3. Much more simple, near side front fog lamp is out, manual says get a dealer to replace it, but how hard can it be ?

Any thoughts about any of the above greatly appreciated, still got a years warrenty so not overly concerned but would like to identfy the problems.

Cheers guy's

Clunking noise could be the diff being low on friction fluid. A top up cured all sorts of weird low speed noises in mine.

Welcome to the world of general motors.
Get a nice exhaust system, then you wont hear the noises..

I'll drop the car back to the dealer and get them to check and top up the diff fluid, not sure if that was one of the checks carried out in the network Q 114 pointer.

Anyone any thoughts on the 1st gear selector problem ?

Cheers Boyce

Yep, most of us have the same problem. If you partially release the clutch then try again it should be better. Selecting reverse is a popular issue too. Some recommend a different gear oil which can help a little. But really its a beefy, but cranky transmission.
