I'm sure this has been covered a thousand times but................
apart from the steering rack which I know is bespoke TVR any one know where the other bits come from, eg pump from a Range Rover? etc, a list of parts and their donor's wold be useful.

Alos the Chimaera I drove with PAS seemed slightly 'over assisted' is there a way of adjusting the amount of assistance?

cheers Mark

Apart from the rack, someone on here(or griff forum)was recently saying that the column uj's are also different on pas cars.
You can alter the lightness of the power steering. From personal experience, the early Tuscans also use the same pump(std rover i believe),this was too light on early tuscans, and the orifice size on either the inlet or outlet of the pump was changed. This orifice is actually more like a washer to look at,for want of a better word, and is interchangeable,to affect how heavy/light the steering feels.I guess you could even experiment with making your own sizes.
Sorry i cant be more specific, but hope this helps-Mike.

Yes,you will need the steering rods and u'j's from a ps car as their different lengths, why don't you go for a electric pump.

Thats a good question, how does that work, can I still control the assistance? I still need to find a PAS rack, I can't belive TVr make the thing it must be a modified one from another car

The Vauxhall Corsa has electric power steering. The motor (I presume the housing contains a motor) fits on the steering column under the dash. The Corsa has the same switchgear as the Cavalier, maybe the steering column itself is interchangeable? Someone more knowledgable about this actual system may be able to help further.

I have a MR2 one but not fitted,I don't know enough about them, if you can fit a controll valve or increase/decrease valve sizes?
Its worth looking into,no mucking round with the serp belt and less drag.

Will have a look, I guess it is no heavier than the stock item, any idea what it draws power wise?

I've converted my Griff to PAS, used an electro-hydraulic pump from a Peugeot 106/Saxo, pretty straight forward really, just had to fabricate a couple of brackets, get a high pressure hose made up and wire it in. The rack is unique TVR and the lower intermediate shaft on the column also has to be changed. I wired the pump through a relay to the alternator charging light connector, so the pump will only get power when the engine is running and not as soon as the ignition is switched on. IMO it's the best conversion I've done to my car and I don't feel it's over assisted, so maybe the car you drove had tyre pressures too high or the front suspension geometery wasn't setup correctly.

I think Joolz at Trackcar did one using a Saxo pump for a grif.

Paul just a thought but what about this, recon it would fit okay, if would be lot easier/cheaper than the 'traditional' method.I'm sure there must be a hitch or some would have done it before, but to me it seems the perfect solution

Sounds like a good idea to me
Elec variable power steering that’s adjustable at the turn of a dial

Corsa B (99-2000) column would be the one to use I guess
Ind/ wiper switchs should be a straight fit?
Ford escort mk1 steering wheel boss fits straight on n can take a nice monty wheel

The variable speed control boxes can be bought from around a ton, so all you need is a quiet weekend n a few mounting brackets lol.
