Is it just me or is it hard to buy this? I don't mean a per processor licence, just the server 'installation' licence w/o buying CAL's at the same time.

Have only ever seen the boxed product as including 5 CALs as part of the deal.

We buy individual server licenses independently of CALs. We get ours through RM, but not sure if they only deal with .ac.uk type people.

Thanks for the info, might just end up buying 5 cals anyway on the premise that they'l be needed soon enough. Bit of a fag though.

Used to use www.insight.com/site/index.cfm they might be worth a bell.

Have used insight for other things and found them to be a beacon of fantasticness in the mire of incompetency that appears to be IT procurement.

You can only do this if you have a corporate licensing agreement with Microsoft. In this case you buy your server licenses independent of any CALs. If you don't have a licensing agreement you can start one but you have to buy 5 licenses first.

If you buy a 'shrinkwrapped' copy of Server 2003 Standard Edition from the likes of Insight, or have an OEM copy supplied with a server, it will come with 5 CALs.

I imagine there's not a huge difference in price... also with the licensing agreement you just get a Volume License Key - you have to buy your media separately unless you have an MSDN subscription or Action Pack.

Good info, thanks - was hoping to save a few squids as this place doesnt allready have any windows servers and the app apparently falls under the no cals needed section of the license agreement, but never mind - 5 cals here I come.
