Basically im getting a laptop at xmas and am looking for a cheap 19" monitor to use when its docked. The screen on the laptop will be widescreen so the monitor will also have to be. Any ideas for cheap monitors? I've seen many for around the £130-140 mark.

The ones ive seen for the price are from well known brands like HP, Acer and Xerox.
I would prefer one from a brand im familiar with but thanks anyway.

PC world (of all places) sold a HP 19" widescreen LCD for £150 a few monghs back, might be worth checking out, i saw the same offer available a month or so after i got mine so i guess they've got a few of them to sell.

I've got a Video7 19" widescreen that I use at home as a second monitor. Cost £100 inc Vat. It's ok, but it does have one dead pixel.

try

www.ebuyer.com/customer/search/?strSearch=&bolShowAll=true&intSubcatUID=354&intCatID=12&intStoreID=66&bolShowAll=true

and add widescreen to the "search within these results" box. There are a few with good reviews

I got a good Fujitsu 19" from PC world business for about £110 or £120 I think.

www.pcwb.com or co.uk good if you buying through a company. also bought some 2 nice speakers with a subwoofer for about £8 at the same time!

Often built like tanks as well. I'd go for an Iiyama over a 'HP' or 'Xerox' branded unit even if it meant paying a little extra.

When buying a LCD always check the dead pixel part of the warranty, the last thing you want is a panel that has a single pixel in the most annoying place and the warranty is for 3 or more.

I've got a VideoSeven 19" widescreen, it cost me about £120 from EBuyer 5 or 6 months ago, came very highly recommended and still has no dead pixels thankfully.

I think this is the Iiyama screen mentioned earlier, and they are very good.
