Engine Upgrade 5.0 >5.2
Discussion
Hi
I believe the 5.2 is based on a 96mm bore and 90mm stroke. This is usually done to a later 4.6 cross bolted block with a specially machined crank which has 2.5-inch mains.
The 5.0 TVR engine has 94mm bore and 90mm stroke. Most of the blocks can be cross bolted but it does mean stripping the engine down and machining. The crank has the smaller 2.3-inch mains.
Hope this helps

been offered a 5.2 conversion but the engine would have to be an exchange, does anyone know if the late 98 500 engine is a cross bolted type ? anybody had an exchange or have they modified their own block ? anyone know the bore and stroke for a 5.2 ?, many thanks,
seems a bit unfair that a company would want to exchange a 5ltr short engine that has obviously got its own worth for a 5.2? the only components that would be re used would possibly be the block approx a £250 surcharge at the most? your short engine would be worth a good £1000 on ebay etc........
