Does anyone have a picture of his or her S fitted with a track day silencer, preferably a V8S?

The reason being is that I am taking the Car to France in May and it’s a tad loud for the missus on such a long Journey. I have booked the car in for a service and they have recommended fitted some track day silencers so that I can have the best of both worlds but as the missus is with my most of the time I go out I think the car will wear them more often than not hence the fact that I liked to see them first. Also does anyone know if these cause any problems performance wise ?

Not sure of the exact DB of the current exhaust except it’s a sports one on a pre cat V8S, swapped cars with a friend with a 4.0l Chimera on a journey home once down some back roads and whilst driving his I couldn’t hear it above the noise mine was making some 30 metres in front

Cheers,

Ian

I haven't a picture I'm afraid, but I had some Peninsula track day silencers which slid into the tail pipes on my sports exhaust, and were located by a single self tapper screwed through the underside of the tailpipe into the body of the silencer.

The silencers were SS tubes about 8" long and basically restricted the exhaust by use of additional baffling. Once in place you would hardly know they were there other than the noise reduction.

If your exhaust was supplied by Peninsula there should be no problem, if not, measure the ID of your tailpipes and give Richard a ring, he should be able to tell you if they fit.

Cheers

I've got a set of Merlin external cans and ACT do something that looks similar. You should check clearance between the top of the can and the back of the body, but on mine there was no problem. There's no reason to expect a performance loss from these, and I couldn't measure any different using the accelerometer.

You can also get exhaust inserts from various places. These are less intrusive but also don't produce as much noise reduction as the external cans, and all do restrict the exhaust and reduce power to some extent. You shouldn't notice the power loss in normal driving but if you take it on the track you may find the engine strangles at the top end of the rev range.

Ian,

Seeing as it was my car you were following I can suggest that you leave well alone. The car sounds briliant and your missus will get used to the noise!

Great fun driving your car though, about time we met again for pub lunch.

T-J-K,

Sounds like a good idea especially with the weather like it is at the moment.
