Hi
my rev counter bounces rather than climbs when accelerating (variation is approx 1000rpm. Once a steady speed has been reached its fine, any thoughts on whats up

No idea

BUT

Before LT 06 I decided to replace my full ignition system - so I didnt have any idling issues - ha ha ha nice idea didnt work though furious

Any way back to the point - since I have changed my coil the readout is exactly the same as your's. Somebody please correct me if I am wrong but the rpm readout on the dash comes from the coil NOT the alternator?

Suspect either a loom issues ie dodgy connection or a poor earth.

Had the same problem, replaced leads, Distributer cap etc recently, runs better, but Rev counter now "Bouncing". The read out normally comes from the coil / distributer LT lead I think, but i havn't changed the coil.

It's often caused by interference in the signal wire (connected to the LT side of the coil) from one or other of the HT leads. Make sure they're routed away from each other as far as is practicable.

Mine was all over the shop and then found that a spade connector going onto the coil was loose. That fixed it. Also got the car going again

I've been through the dancing tacho problems after putting some 10mm leads on......cured by fitting £17 leads from local Landie shop, revv counter silky smooth again.........until I replaced coil(Bosch)a few weeks later, dancing around all over the place again.
I GIVE UP !!??!!
