Hi all,

Baisically I want to make a mp3 CD for my car and tried to in iTunes, however obviously these are in the standard iTunes 'AAC' (think that is correct) format. So do any of you know of any free software which I can use to convert them to mp3 and make my CD?!

Many thanks!

You should be able to make an Audio CD using iTunes, with the AACs.
It's all there. But, if you do want to burn a disc of MP3s for your CD player to playback in that format, then simply highlight the ones you want in the Library, and from the Advanced options, choose Convert Selection to MP3 - making sure you've selected MP3 as your conversion method in Preferences. Importing and Burning tabs are the ones you'll be using here.

You could try this...

In iTunes, go to Edit > Preferences
Select the Advanced tab
In there, select the Burning tab

This gives you the option of burning to Audio CD or MP3 CD. Choose the one you want, then go back to the playlist you want to rip to CD, insert a blank CD and click on Burn Disc (top right of the main iTunes page). That should do it. cool

For future reference you can also tell iTunes which format to convert your CD's to when importing them; selecting a nice high quality MP3 format will save this hassle with future import sessions.

But other than that, yeah, as above for getting the program to transcode to MP3 and write the disk.

But then you just rip them to CD and re-import them in MP3 format.

Yup, agreed. I've done that with most of my downloads.

Thanks very much all!

I did try setting up the program to burn an mp3 cd before I came on here for help- but it wouldnt as it threw up an error message saying that the tracks had to be in mp3 first.

I have just used the 'convert slection to mp3' so I will let that work its majic! If I have any more problems I'll be back!

Thanks!

Why not just rip the songs to audio CD and then re-import them in MP3 format?

Why use up a cd? Besides, that is really for the copy protected itunes store stuff.
Plus, there is some quality loss when transcoding from one format to another.

Im starting to think this topic should become a sticky!? Gets asked quite frequently on here.
