Got a cordless DECT phone and the crackling on the line at times makes conversations impossible. I've done all the tests and with the router switched off the line is good so the interference is coming from the router for sure.
I've tried another ADSL filter and while better is not perfect, both the filters I've used came boxed with the original equipment so I suspect not of the highest quality.

Should I splash out on a nice expensive filter, or, would changing the channel on the wireless settings help? Currently set to Auto (thinkit's using channel 6. Router is a Netgear DG834PN

TIA.

Disable the wireless and use the router wired, if the interference is still there then it isn't wireless in which case the filter route may be the right one.

If the interference is only there with wireless switched on then not sure what you can do; Dect and 802.11b/g both use 2.4ghz, you could try moving them further apart or move to 802.11a with uses 5ghz?

Cheers will try switching off the wireless.

Can't switch to 'a' though as router doesn't have this option, b/g only.

No, you need a new router and wireless cards to use a. It's not very common, there are a few a/b/g devices but not that many.

Won't be doing that - just got this router.

More of an inconvienience at the moment, having a business line installed in the new year so hopefully it will go away. DECT and router should have sufficient distance between them.

Changing the wireless channel is free, so worth trying before getting a new filter. It probably won't have much effect if it is the wireless that's causing the problem, depends on the quality of the dect kit. Might be worth turnign down the power on the wireless if you can too.
