Forgive me if this has been covered before, done a quick search and can't find anything.

What sort of mileage do you get from your chain - I've got a ZZR600 and was just wondering really. Ridden in all weather - no scottoiler but regularly adjusted and lubed.

Depending on how you ride and how well you maintain it, 10-15K should be easily achievable on a 600cc bike.

My current R6 somehow managed to do 20k on its original chain and sprockets. Though I add I managed to finish it off on those final 5k myself commuting across london after I bought it at 15k miles. Think worse I've ever done was 8k from new on my previous gsxr600 also commuting all weathers. It got a new chain and sprockets two weeks before it was nicked

Just changed mine @23k on a blade.

No I don't ride like a girl (sorry Lilly & others) have to confess the front wheel was on the road/mud/lake all the way on today though. I do keep it very well lubed and tensioned. It does 80 miles a day all weathers mostly B/A roads and gets a squirt of lube over which ever part of the chain is visible every other day.

Twins are much harder on chains. I had to replace the chain and sprockets on my Aprilia at about 8 or 9,000 miles

Bugger me if I only got 5000 miles out of my last set on the Factory. That was using a 520 conversion on 15/42 sprockets!! banghead Went back to the 525 pitch after that!!!!

You obviously ride a lot harder than me

I've just dropped one tooth on the front sprocket, so less torque.

Well there were at least three track days in that. The 520 pitch stetches like hell on the factory.

That's why they fit the 525.rolleyes

I got around 11,000 from my 916 (525 14/36)) and have now done similar mileage on the replacement so probably need a new one again.

Anything above 15,000 miles is pretty good on a 4 cylinder. I go for the AFAM Gold chains as replacements.

Had a very stretchy chain on my 600RR from new. Never got a tight spot, it just stretched & stretched until I ran out of adjustment at about 8,000 miles.

I understand what you mean, weight reduction (bike not me) is a great thing & I have swapped my wheels for lighter ones which was a great improvement but realistically how much weight does a 520 chain & sprocket save over a 525? - probably be more beneficial to have a good crap before riding. rolleyes

curently have over 26k miles on my ZX12R chain but it does have a Scottoiler. Still the same chain from new when I bought the bike in 2000. Do alot of touring across Europe but do give it beans in the right places such as the mountain roads etc. Needs adjusting normally once a year (apart from at service time) and I do about 4500miles a year.

My ZX10R (04) currently manages about 1500 miles per chain and rear sprocket...

It is a trackday only bike tho :-)
