PH collective help for new iPod needed....

Hey'all. I've got a new 5th Gen iPod and need to know how to convert any of my existing AVI or WMV files into Quicktime in order to put a video clip on the device.
I've tried various downloads from Download.com that specialise in converting media files but for some reason (Apple?) there don't seem to be any that convert in this direction, ie. AVI to MOV/QT

tis free, seems to trundle through AVI, MPG2 and stuff just fine. Spits out MP4 files that iTunes has no problems feeding to the player.
