Anyone ridden an ST1300?
Discussion
I fancy an upgrade (yes, already!) from the ST11... but I keep hearing tales of high-speed weaves. Apparently some Police officer was killed in a crash on one and the force sent all their bikes back (Merseyside I believe).
However there seem to be plenty sold and most stuff I can find in print suggests that it's quite good really, perhaps the load and tyre pressures etc. is critical?
I was planning to go and see one at the weekend, just wondered if anyone else on here besides me is a middle-aged fat git wannabe-Goldwing rider
I don't normally solicit the opinions of others: rather too much hearsay and not enough first-hand evidence, it's like owning a TVR
Incidentally I see the GoldThing now sports airbags, heated seats and warm air to the rider's feet, to go with the self-levelling, satnav, cruise control, intercom, CB, CD, ABS, armrests, ashtrays and coffee percolator
Still, for 20 big ones I'd want a few toys as well...

Middle aged......yup.
Fat git......trying to prevent that happening.
Wannabe-Goldwing rider.......never, but I've settled on the sedateness of a Hardly Ridable instead...

I could kind of see the attraction for crossing large continents, but not for traversing the UK. It's the same as those people who buy a humungous motorhome and then find they can't even get it into Cumbria, never mind Keswick caravan park.
I had an ST1300 for a short time over the summer. It suffered no high speed weave at all, even when loaded. I believe the police advice after the accident was to check tyre pressures very regularly, as it is very sensitive to this. I don't think they have had any reported problems since.

Go on then, pick fault with it....?
