When I was putting away the Cerb last night, I noticed a small patch of Oil on the Garage floor, in the area of the Diff. Anybody got any ideas what may be causing this? (presumably it's a seal gone). And more importantly - will it be covered by my WH Warranty?

Cheers

well mine was leakinga nd was told it was over filled at last service.. some oil was drained and it is ok. the good news is that unlike the Chimeara the rear diff seal can be done without removing the diff.. if its the drive shaft seals leaking it may be a bit more tricky.. over to the experts!

from my WH gold max claim £1000 - policy booklet - drive shaft seals differential pinion seals amd any gasket or oil seal where the removal of the engine or gearbox or differential is required in order to effect a repair is covered.

so I'd say if its the rear diff seal then cos the diff doesn't need to come out then no you aren't covered...but if its any other seal and the diff needs to come out you are..

TADTS.
Make sure it's actually a leak, and not just coming out the breather and making the diff wet. Even with the oil not overfilled, giving it any kind of large when the diff is cold will cause the oil to froth and come out the breather. Just coz the engine may be up to temperature doesn't mean the diff[and its oil] will be up to temperature. I might take 10 miles or more before the diff is up for it.

Dry the diff and treat it very gently when cold for a while and see what happens.

I had a slight oli leak right where the diff is - locked the car in the garage one night last week and saw a small amount of oil on the floor next morning. It was due for a service anyway so booked it in. Turns out the breather had become very loose and was pissing oil everywhere. £100 later, problem sorted!

If "giving it large" is the issue responsible for your oil loss -

At the beginning of last year when I moved on to slicks for track days the diff got rather hotter than it used to and would lose quite alot of oil via the breather. Those excellent chaps at Castle Motorsport, formerly Raven, fitted an electric pump driven oil cooler and manual switch to solve it.

Ok, I put the Cerb up on Ramps & after poking around, it became obvious that its a problem with the bushes on the O/S of the Diff...so off to Waldonway it will go! (I think I'll do the Snetterton Track day 1st though)

Many thnx for all your help!
