If its a new unit you are after, call your nearest dealer of the manufacturer of your choice?

If you mean "new to you" then a breakers, ebay or some small ads.

I am looking for an engine for racing and development. I would prefer a TVR V12 but due to certian reliability issues I am not so shure. I want a ton of tourqe and BHP. Looking at quad turboing it.

Reliability ?????

I wouldnt worry about the reliability of the TVR v12 engine.

When you find one to buy you will be too old to drive it......

Id go for a Lexus V8, these are supposed to have the strongest standard internals.

Are you going to do this yourself? Have you ever done anything like this before?

Type V12 into ebay and there is a 5.0 engine with all the bits (for about £300). Should be good for a few bananas (hp). You can also pick up a non-HE V12 jag engine and get some US spec pistons, with the 8.not very much compression ratio, you are ready for the big turbos.

Manual gearboxes are a snag. Jag ones are 4 speed (but more not needed) and are about £600 with the flyheel/clutch. The BMW's are all autos. I reckon you could bodge it up though....what about a skyline box?

Jag V12+american spec pistons+2xT4 turbos could make about 700 bananas without too much trouble!

Hmmm, Sounds interesting. I might just go with Chevy V8 since it is the easiest to get in the USA. (the one in the new Vette) I have heard that they are very customizable. The gearbox sounds like it will be interesting to sort out.

By the way, What is the true stock BHP on one of those. I think I read in Car and Driver that it was 505 BHP, but i have heard rumors that it is really 550 BHP. Is it true?

505 is the factory figure but they seem to make 600-650 with a cam change and other mods.

LS1, 6 or any variant thereof.

Why would a gearbox be difficult ?? You can easily buy anything you want to bolt to these engines, and the standard T56 isnt exactly a weakling.

Also, whilst a quad turbo would be an interesting engineering/building exercise, it would be a waste of time when 2 turbos would make more than enough power to keep anyone happy, and be far far easier to install.. In fact, one turbo can do that in most cases.

The uh, gear box would be interesting to sort out for the V12's and such. As far as the turbos go, just a dream, probably just end up with a twin on it.

What is worrying about the price ? Compared to other UK blueprinters they are on par.
