Another LP640 in a 'mishap'...

How much more tricky is the 640 to drive over the last Murcielargo?
The variable valve timing makes it much different in characteristics than the 6.2 version. Whereas the 6.2 has a lazy way of accelerating but relentlessly nonetheless, the 6.5 in the LP640 is much more agressive. The needle whips around the revcounter in total contrast to the 6.2, where you can bang your foot down on the throttle at idle, and it takes what seem ages to to flick round. Interestingly a lot of these smashes are by previous 6.2 owners or test drivers.
OUCH to The Stig. I remember "lending" him my Carrera GT, not for his hot lap that went on the board but for another day when they had the Enzo, F40, F1 etc down there. He promised it was only to do some cornering shots and not huge speed.
His idea of huge speed and mine were clearly different. V impressive. I didn't mind, it was good to see the car being driven that on the edge, so I can't imagine how fast he was going in the 640 to stuff it......

We know that Ferruccio Lamborghini started out as a tractor maker before building his line of exotic sports cars, but taking an LP640 out to clear a field is just plain silly. Just weeks after Richard Hammond was released from the hospital following his rocket car crash, it is being reported that The Stig lost control of a new Lamborghini and aquaplaned off track and into the grass. Not the first time The Stig has spun out, but after Hamster's nearly disastrous ride, this is another unwanted scare. The Stig has notably spun the Koenigsegg CCX we drove in Vegas, as well as the Porsche Carrera GT, so the Murci is in good company.
While not explicitly naming the Top Gear program or The Stig himself, the BBC did have a few things to say about the incident. The gold Lamborghini Murcielago was being driven by "a professional," who escaped unharmed. The BBC also confirmed that the accident occurred during "a test run on a rain-soaked runway in Dunsfold Park, Surrey."
That location happens to be where Top Gear does most of its testing. A witness related that it appeared as though the driver just lost control in the bad weather, and that the Lambo was "spinning rapidly before skidding off the track and coming to a halt in a field. It looked pretty bashed up."

Out of interest what made you get rid of the CGT?
Simon,
Were you the Lambo at airtrack this year at Le Mans. I was on a pitch a few meters away. Nice group of cars you had with you.
The guys in the bar were VERY lucky that you are such a gent as to take them for a spin!
Also believe you and your party threw some 'quips' at my girlfriend (tall brunette) and her mate whilst on their way to the shower!
Also, what was the Barbie car all about?
You going next year?

Partly because it wasn't the most useable of cars, which to be fair I knew when I bought it. Mostly I like changing my cars. Enjoy buying them, driving them, then looking for the next thing. The 997 Turbo went this week, so now shopping for something new. I realise its a costly habit, just keep telling myself its better than some habits.....!

Assuming you got your Turbo at list you cant have lost any money on that. Must have actually made a small profit surely?

Victim?!

I think thats a Northern term for potential conquest
Sorry did'nt realise it was your Mrs though don't remember that much about those few days. That is apart from setting a blow up doll called Wendy on fire cos we figured it was a witch!
Wotcha Simon, still up to your Bad Boy tactics I see!
I was lucky enough to blag a ride with John Barker in the LP640 chasing Jethro Bovingdon in the 599GTB during eCotY and it feels massively faster than the earlier Murcielago. A complete animal, especially in the mid-range, where it felt slightly quicker still than the Fiorano.
You're gonna have a laugh when yours arrives (although I still can't see the point in owning 2 Murcis!).
