i have shot 20 images for a client with my digital back and have noticed that in photoshop that the reds appear out of gamut. the question is that as i have not been asked to convert them to cmyk or been supplied with their printer profile am i right in thinking that their designer is responsible for all conversions?
As a designer, I get images all the time with colour out of gamut, it's just a fact of life that CMYK can't reproduce the same wide range of colours as RGB. Why else do you think so many product catalogues have disclaimers on them saying 'due to the limitations of the printing process, the colours may not be reproduced accurately' or words to that effect.

the client had some posters printed and all the reds blocked in and i tried explaining the rgb - cmyk conversion thing but they didn't get it. i then assured them that the images as per calibrated printouts were fine so obviously the designer didn't convert them or reduce the saturation to within the tolerances of the printer they were using.
