Firstly, I'm new to the forum so hi to all you other Triumph owners out there. I reckon we'll probably get along well, coz you've obviously got good taste!

I've got a 1976 Spitfire 1500, orange. Thing of beauty. A previous owner had fitted ansa sports exhausts to her, which have now broken. Hell of a clang as I was driving home Weds night, and when I had a look the left-hand pair of pipes was dragging on the road.

I've been looking around for a new set, but ansa exhausts seem to be a bit thin on the ground, not sure if there's a supplier in the UK or not anymore. Does anyone happen to know of one?

Plus, I've spoken to a few people who don't stock 'em, but one bloke I called said he'd stopped stocking them years ago because they rust really badly. He reckons they'd be alright in Italy, but coz of the amount of salt put on the roads in the UK he's known to not last a year. I know the tssc do Bell systems with a lifetime guarantee, and all reports seem good. Anyone here use them or have any reccommendations?

Cheers, Adam.

Welcome to the Forum. You have definitely come to the right place for advice. I have recently bought a 1967 Mk1. Vitesse.
During a nut and bolt restoration from '83 - '86 the car was fitted with a Bell exhaust system in 1986!
In the last 2 weeks I have had an overhauled gearbox and diff fitted. Part of the work required the removal of most of the exhaust system, and after 20 years on the car the comment was that the exhaust system was in very good nick. So Bell exhausts are alright in my book.
I still have the garantee certificate for the Bell system which was amongst the history supplied, when I bought the car.

If you want a decent system and a good price. Try talking to Karl Dandridge at KD Triumph www.kdtriumph.com/ . Alternatively Dave Pearson at Canley Classics www.canleyclassics.com/ I have had a stainless system on my Vitesse for over 60,000 miles and I reckon the only problem may be that some of the wadding in the silencer has been blown out.

Another option is Moss (www.moss-europe.co.uk) who's systems are made by Falcon I think.

O.K, thanks a lot for the feedback everyone.

I'll phone around and see what's what. Bell are certainly looking good so far. Lifetime guarantee sounds good to me. I'll let you know if I come across any remarkably good deals or have any problems, as I do like to choose my parts suppliers etc. by reccommendation.

Well, after speaking to my nearest Triumph specialist, Anglian Triumph Services, I'm going with a Falcon system like j17 suggested. This guy gets nothing but good reviews from the sports six club, and seems to know what he's about. He reckons Falcon systems have a better finish than Bell and a nicer engine note, although it's all down to personal taste. The best bit is, however, that he can supply and fit it cheaper than I can buy the Bell one from the club and fit it myself! Says they are of equal quality too.

So if anyone on here is in East Anglia, and wants some parts or work done, this place looks good so far. I'll let you know if anything happens to change that opinion.

The Falcon system is definately the nicer sounding one. Bell seem to be a bit loud and harsh for long journeys, I found out the hard way

David at Anglian Triumph does know his stuff and can always help out if you're in a muddle.

Have been meaning to post a happy ending to this thread for the last few days. Got my new exhausts fitted on Tuesday, and they certainly do sound good. The only reason I had to wait that long was because the delivery to the garage took a while. Christmas delay probably I suppose.

Anyway, job done, and apparently the exhaust supplier forgot to charge Anglian Triumph Services for the fitting kit, so they've passed the saving on and haven't charged me for it. Nice that, they could have just not mentioned it and I would've paid for it none the wiser.

So thought I'd just sort of return the favour and reccommend them to everyone who reads this. There the first people I'll be calling when I've got the cash together for a respray...
