Nasty noise from back of car... Like the worst road noise ever... I'm told it's probably wheel bearings but maybe diff, so anybody got any idea how much it costs to;

replace a wheel bearing
replace the diff

mark,it is normally the pinion bearings that collapse first,now this noise should change with load(on and off the gas)more a whining sound really(not droning).if its a wheel bearing the noise stays constant at same speed but changes tone as you speed up or slow down graunching/grinding sound,sometimes changes when you load the bearing up swerving to right or left or cornering.stick the car up on stands and spin the wheel feeling for roughness or droning sound,as to be very worn to feel in this way normally.Get a second opinion 1st or it may be a costly experience.

Gearboxman rebuilt my diff a month ago for £400. No idea on the wheel bearings though!
