I am thinking of buying a crf250x or crf 450x for green laning can anybody help me with good advise. i might use for some road work also ??????????????????????? i am quite short so i would need to lower it is this possible ????????????? live in norwich

250 ideal for green laning - will go up the steepest of mountain Rupps in Wales but soon runs out of legs on the road.
450 great on the road but a bugger if you fall off or get really stuck in the mud. I had to tow one out with my 4x4!
My brother in law went up to 450 then up to 600 but the annoying barsteward never fell off on the green lanes so he never had the problem of picking the thing up.

I'm 6ft tall and found ride height a bit of a problem on the rough stuff but you could change the shock/linkage.

They don't have hills in Norwich do they?

Anyway go for the 250 they have plenty enough oooomph

I would go for the 250 but are you sure about the CRF. CRF's have very little down low with everything up top and can be a pain in the @rse when all you want to do is tinker about. TTR might be a better option as the power curve is very linear and the seat height is more suited to the vertically challenged.

My CRF250x was great for green laning, however a bit frantic. Battery is quite weak and after a few stalls I've had to kick start it.

However, will go over anything and go anywhere.

Honda do an import 230 which has a lower seat height.

The 450R is a monster. Due to the flat slide carb, the torqu delivery is immense. For greenlaning, I would suspect that the 450X is not a lot tamer. I would suspect that the 250X would be a good compromise.

I am surprised by the comment that the 450 is all top end. I found it very strong right through the rev range. They are very sensitive to setup and jetting, so make sure you get this sorted.

Be aware that the R range have crazy service intervals, and run a very trick piston with very short skirts, which is prone to a lot of wear. IMHO service them religiously.

I'd suggest the 250x.

give the head to ph engineering,simons heads are on the 250 & 450 british super motad champions bikes he gets 38 bhp out of the 250 and loads of bottom end still waiting for figures for the 450,he is in Salisbury-07788712722,all he dose is heads but real good had my harley heads done by him top job
