a 1200 mile service for a cerb is a round the £700 mark.
what do they do for this.
do cerbs really need to be serviced at tvr,or could a competent mechanic do the work.
apart from tappet adjustment is anything else that difficult to do.
just seems an outrageous amount of money.

Technically, you can do most of the stuff yourself. The benefit of paying for a service at a good Indie, is that they know what to look for, and know how to do it. I look after my car really well, but when I took it to be serviced he found a few things wrong that I hadnt even noticed, a crack in the alloy Steering column housing, suspension was set 15mm to low - stuff like that.
On a Mundane normal car things like that arent too important, but never forget that you are driving in, and probsbly taking your loved ones in, a high performance 180mph supercar. If you can afford to look after a Cerbera properly, you shouldnt have one.

while i appreciate your input.that fault could have occured in a ford fiesta.you and other owners seem to get side tracked in thinking
that this is a f1 car that tvr dealerships are working on.at the end of the day its a glorified kit car.a good looking one though.ill give you that. but these huge bills that go with the marque can be vastly reduced if you can give the work to some one who is not going to take the piss like dealers charging silly amounts of £££££££££££££

The same could be said of virtually any marque. Your local Audi/BMW/Merc main stealer will have a labour rate way higher than most TVR dealers...

What's your point? That DIY is cheaper? No shit.

Not sure what your point is!!??
I pay some £38ph for my TVR servicing via a 'as good as it gets' indie TVR specialist (APM). You arent going to find many garages (whatever the marque, location, competence etc) that will charge you less than that PLUS they wont know what they are dealing with so will take longer, not know how to source parts, not have parts on the shelf, wont have contacts with suppliers etc etc.... APM know how to set up the cars properly. Know how to diagnose problems quickly etc etc.....
'Cheap' servicing could be a false economy.

If you want to know what taking the piss really is --try Ceicely Continental at Preston (TVR authorised dealers) who quoted me £1150 for a 12K service on a Cerbie -now even Dick Turpin wore a mask --some people clearly have NO shame!

My local garage charges £35/hour, the TVR indie I contacted wanted £40/hour which I thought was more than reasonable for that expertise, certainly better than the £120/hour my local Nissan dealer charged when my engine was replaced under warrenty.

Every job has it's ways of doing things. Even something simple can take a long time the first time because you don't know you have to remove something first for example. I think the reason people use indies is they don't want some local erk learning on their pride and joy. Also do you really want them to do a 'road test' if they aren't experienced?

I hope you'll be buying him a bloody good Christmas pressie, because at those prices that he charges he more than deserves one.

Glorified Kit Car?? Marcus what car have you got at the moment? We are definitely not getting sidetracked into thinking that it is some kind of F1 car either.A Cerbera is a stonkingly fast fast car, that will outperform nearly all so called supercars, and it needs looking after properly. And the best people to do that are those that know the car, and most people on here would agree that a good Indie (and we all have our favourites) is the best person to look after them. You are ust showing your ignorance of the Cerbera by comments like the ones you made.

Simple answer: i) a 12k service includes quite a lot of work, ii) they can be a pig to work on, hence more hours labour-wise.

You havent touched a nerve at all, were just answering your question and your just being an a**hole and showing your ignorance and not listening to the replies.

Just because the beasts are cheaper to buy, doesn't mean they are cheaper to run.
If you were buying a similar aged porsche, you'd probably be paying a third or so more to buy the car.

Why not just use that money to keep the more interesting car on the road?

98 996 ~ £20k
98 Cerb ~ £12-15k

Lot of money for servicing that.
The fact that the Cerb looks better, goes better, and sounds better you could just take to be an added bonus.

If you're so hung up on spending £1400 for a service, then it doesn't sound like a Cerb is the car for you.

i guess your right,i can't see myself pulling out £1400 for a service, simply because it's not justified. got to draw the line somewhere.could you break it down for me please.parts & labour please..
