GTR problems...

Well I found GTR going pretty cheap in a shop so bought it, when its working its good as far as I can tell with the keyboard (need to get a PC wheel).

But it keeps freezing up on me for no apparent reason, any ideas what could cause this? it happens in the menus rather than when actually playing.

I'm running Athlon64 3400+, 512mb RAM, Radeon 9550 (256mb) which should be more than enough to run it well I thought?

any help appreciated.

Check your cooling fans, games locking up like that can often be due to overheating because a fan isn't working when it needs to most (playing graphics intensive games).

check you've got the latest patch and also the latest graphics drivers too.

Thanks, Its release 1.3 which I think is the latest version, downloaded latest drivers from ATI but didn't help.

I found a suggestion on another forum to run it windowed instead of fullscreen, which helped so it only crashes occasionally now, generally when I click 'back' to leave one game or race mode for another. I'll try to find time to check the fans sometime too, computer is about a year old.

Hmm I'll check what mine is again then, it says "Release 29 Sep 06" on the box, have new patches been brought out since then? could help...

Just to bump this again, I'd been pretty busy over summer so left it alone, now having installed 1.5 patch, latest graphics drivers etc, tried playing it again, it still freezes all the time! Not during gameplay just in the menus.



I'm guessing its not a common problem but quite annoying having a good game and not being able to play it...

I had problems with it freezing when accessing or doing anything in the Controls tab when using a Thrustmast Enzo wheel, but that was the Thrustmaster drivers. If you're using a keyboard that shouldn't be a problem for you.

I've done a quick google and other people have had this, one thing in common is a Radeon gfx card.

Try new drivers or roll back to older drivers and see if there is any difference.

Hmmm, tried updating drivers again and it seems to have helped, still freezes but only occasionally now.
