hey dudes.... just thought I would share the story of my first off

got the new toy out of the garage, going round the first small bend at the end of my road at no more than 25mph lost the front wheel and ended up skidding down the road on my side with bits of plastic and metal flying up at me. Quickly got up to see a trail of destruction down the road and my lovely new toy sitting on the road steaming mad

I only bought the bike a 1999 R6 a few weeks ago... rode it back 135 miles in the pouring rain and biting cold without incident, only to crash it at the bottom of my road. *sigh*

Please be careful out there!! I'm shocked at the damage I did at 25mph... I hate to think what would have happened if I'd have done that at 60+....

You OK?
Cross finger its purely cosmetic, rather than anything horrible.

yeah I'm OK thanks... bruised my foot, hip and my elbows got a lovely lump on it... It could have been a lot worse.

I think its mainly cosmetic... I've split a rad hose that casued all the steam, broken the rear brake peg totally and the mirror and screen. Every faring panel on the right hand side is either scuffed or cracked

And the ironic thing was the bike came fitted with race tyres (road legal cuts) and I was on my way to get new road ones fitted for the winter, as I thought the raceys took too long to warm up rolleyes

Murphys Law about the timing, doesnt make it any easier to look at though..

The elbow is going to hurt for a while - the nice Sister at A&E said I'd bruised the fat pads, and had a traumatic case of Students Elbow, which is making my table manners impeccable as I cant lean my elbows on the table hehe

Has to be Mad Max styley for the winter, and see about replacement in the Spring, when its worth it. Shoudl be a bunch of screens on the Bay, or go straight for irridium...

Ouch! I saw you had a bit of nasty off on the motorway... did you find the road or a car?

Road, nothing horrible, and the more I think about it, the luckier I was. Good gear, doing its job.

Hehe true

I've decided i'm not going to try and repair it... I just havent got the time or cash. The plan is to stick it on fleabay in the new year, but if anyone here is interested drop me an email gazzy_70@hotmail.com and I'll send you some more details and piccies.

I'm glad to hear you're still in 1 piece. Don't rush into a decission on the bike. Give youreslf a little more time to establish what REALLY needs to be replaced as selling it crashed will return very little money.

You'll lose loads by selling it on fleabay now. I'd keep it and get some fairing panels from ebay.

Race tyres on the road are really bad at this time of year. I fell off my gixer a few years back after leaving it out all night in the frost and then attempted to turn a corner at 10mph and lost the front. rolleyes

Glad to hear you were wearing good kit. A fall like that can be so much worse without proper kit.

Glad your OK.

As you know - only 2 types of biker. Those that HAVE and those that WILL one day come off.

As I've said before get some crash bungs if they are not already fitted to your bike. Well worth the outlay for the potential savings, especially with a low speed spill like you had.

I crashed my 2001 R6 in September 2005.

It used to look like this before the accident.

Then I crashed it and all the panels were f@cked on one side so i stripped it down.

Hurt my hand:

Then had the panels repaired / replaced and it ended up like this.

Then I sold it in March 2006 and bought this:

Had my first off on Saturday after an incident free first two weeks biking. Out with a mate on my Gixxer 600, him on his R6, had been cross country and we were getting into the groove. nothing silly, roads dry mainly but damp in places and cold. As we approached a junc wanting to turn right, i looked left and right, and again, i wanted to keep the flow, it seemed clear, i was down to 1st gear at walking pace now, at the last moment i decided my view to the left out of this junction was not clear enough just to pull out and carry on. So i decided to stop, only i seemed to forget to put my right leg down, by the time i did it was too late and the weight and angle was beyond me, off i went!!!!! Furious at myself, as i gathered myself and lifted the bike back up, expecting to see the worse, but not a mark! thankyou crash bobbins! I'm glad i've had my off and it was such a nice one ;-) That will never happen again now, and i only hope i don't have a more serious incident.

I hope you either get good money of Ebay or decide to repair your R6 tho.

Thanks for the advice guys...

Ouch Pistolvip!! Hope the hand got better quickly! Were you wearing gloves? Interesting to note your R6 was the same colour as mine too...

Another ironic thing about this bike is I ordered some lovely red crash bobbins off fleabay... only for the wrong fitting to turn up! I'd only just sent them back for the correct ones the day before I crashed rolleyes

I know how you feel hursty25, I did that turning right at a junction on my ZXR400 when it stalled... you really do feel a t**t!!

That hand looks very painfull, glad it healed OK, but surely you can't have been wearing gloves?
Not one to preach, but even when I have ridden in jeans & T-shirt (very occasionally, just down the road & when it's been baking hot) I ALWAYS WEAR GLOVES.
