I'm wondering if anyone can help. when ever I start the car, hot or cold the idle speed goes straight to 1000+ rpm. It stay there for 1-2 secs then quickly drops back to 650 rpm & idles smoothly. It only happens on start up not during normal driving.
Is this due to the way the ecu is set up, ie normal, or something else?
I was wondering if it is to do with the stepper motor? Is it possible for the ignition off base setting for this to be wrong so that it has to adjust itself when the motor starts?
If so how do you correct it?

Hi Poorpeet mine has always done the same at start up.
I have always assumed that the stepper motor takes a second or two to get from the parked position to the correct idle position when the engine first starts up.
Then again I might be talking bowlarks.
At least you have a decent tick over after that though, think it may be a case of
TADTS.
Cheers
Paul.

Mine has always done this too, although my idle speed is about 900rpm!

Idle speed should be around 900rpm - my 450 starts up and ticks over for about 30 secs at about 1200, then drops down to a lumpy 900 until its warmed up, then is a very smooth 900 :-)
