Serious hoon machine.....buy it

Unfortunately not ridden one myself, but from those that have no one has said anything bad about it, but they were all owners of other Monsters anyway.

I have to say that, although it's perhaps the 'ultimate' Monnie with all the 'gucci' bits, some of those ex-Monster mates that have ridden one still reckoned the best value for money/fun factor etc Monnie is the S2R 1000 rather than the water cooled S4 versions.

I still miss my old M750....cry

Just talked to the Dealer

He said that if we were talking in the pub, he'd recommend the S2R 1000 too instead of the all whistles and bells S4R-S version.

Saves about £2,500 too which allows for a set of termis plus some clothing!

I've ridden the S2R 800 and found it to be very agricultural. Can't comment on the S4R or the S2R 1000 but I would also consider the Tuono.

BIG difference between the S2R800 and the S2R1000.....

Termi's are nice, but expensive.

You can get virtually the same thing for almost half the price if you buy SilMotor cans instead. Will give even more extra over for other goodies.

Call Stuart at Spareshack about the Sil's.

Also worth joining up with the UK Monster mob, it's still free I believe and they are a great bunch. Mass Monster rides outs were such a hoon.....

My only real concern is the tank range for the odd tours of Scotland.

Still dithering......

Touring.......Monster.

Not two words that generally go together. If touring Scotland is a fairly irregular occurance then you can work around the range thing, as you'll have got used to that by then.

If touring is something you intend doing on a more regualr basis then perhaps a Monnie isn't worth considering. It's a short distance/time hooligan machine, not a tourer.
I know a few of the lads from Monster UK have ridden their Monsters all the way to the Italian adriatic coast and back for a Ducati meet, but, that was hard work.

Don't worry about it!!

I have a KTM950 with a tank range of about 150 to empty if progressing in a sensible manner.

I did 5 days to the top of Scotland including a Sunday and never had any issues with filling up or finding petrol stations as long as you think ahead.

Hmmmmm........You'd have to be riding like the Queens chauffeur to get 150 miles out of a 1000cc Monnie......

If you're 'playing' you'll be doing well to get into 3 figures.

Generally, I was doing well if I got 120 miles out of my old M750 before the fuel warning light came on.

I could get 150 on a good run with some enjoyment, but an old M900 would struggle to get that on a similar run, I know from the mass Monnie ride outs how much more often the M900 guys would top up for fuel compared to my M750 or the M600 guys.
So I can imagine a S2R1000 would not be too disimilar.

No update yet.

Alot of people are telling me that a monster isn't an everyday commuting bike and the tank range is an issue for the longer trips.

No decision as yet really - sorry.

Others have suggested the V-Rod in denim black with the new larger tank and BMW are trying to sell me the K1200GT SE.

I just want something to replace my GS which is easier to climb onto - but it is a fantastic bike to replace.

Well, I see almost as many monsters as scooters as commuters in Barcelona....tank range could be an issue - I don't seem to get much from my Multistrada (probably because I ring her neck all the time, grinning like a maniac!).

I'd go for whichever makes you grin the most, especially if you're going to be on it every day.

Just my $0.02.

Monster is a terrific everyday commuting bike. I used mine quite happily, not everyday granted, but my best friend used his everyday for going into London. His Monnie was his only form of transport and he clocked nearly 18,000 miles per year on his. No problem at all.
Yes the tank range can be seen to be an issue, but, you get conditioned to 'splashing and dashing', and personally it's making an issue out of nothing TBH.

A V-Rod is way more impractical than a Monnie as a commute tool.

As I said before.......I think the new Triumph Tiger 1050 ticks all the boxes...yes
Was it in Bike or Ride that had a recent 4 way test of the new Tiger against a Multistrada, Bimmer GS and a Yam TDM, and the new Tiger came out on top.
