Hello Guys,

Bloke in a rut. A big one at that.
seriously in the market for a Porsche 996 turbo (facelift model).
But the dilema has come in to choose from Manual/Tiptronic ??
I have always beem a manual guy, never even thought of owning a auto/tip car.
The 996 turbos i have saw and the ones that tick all the boxes and more, with x50 pack as well - all are tiptronic. So thats where the fun starts.
People have told me that the turbo tip can be fun once you have got used to it.
To be honest the car i have found/been offered is my dream car, right colour, mint A1 spec, but with a tiptronic box.
So i have posted this to get some real opinions and feed back.
About me, i am totaly Porsche mad, always have been so i want to get this next buy right.

Hear hear. I have been searching for the right car for a while - black/black, manual, <30k miles, stainless exhaust, nav, Bose, (pref X50) FOPCSH, £50 - £55k... and there is nothing out there. There are plenty of tips - and they are cheaper than the manuals.

There have been many discussion threads around man-v-tip on this forum... and it's each to their own. I live in London so have been tempted by the tip, but sticking with the man search for the time being. I know that everyone will flame me for looking at residuals - but i think that man residuals will hold stronger because as these cars get older they fall into the hands of proper enthusiasts (rather than bonus-crazed bankers who aren't into cars) - and enthusiasts want manuals.

That's my tuppence worth - I am sure that there are plenty of conflicting opinions out there!

Thanks for your reply.
I am chomping at the bit.
I have just come out of a 997 c2s, it was amazing. Great car, never had one thing wrong with it. But the time came to change up to some thing with a bit more BHP and it has to be a Porsche. I wouldnt even consider any other car.
I dont mind if the 996 turbo has x50 pack or not, just the more i think about it the more i want a manual - to have a bit fun with the car - and blast the hell out of the boy racers.
Have`nt been offered any black ones, just boring artic silver X 10, they seem to be the only ones about.

The more i think about a tip, the more i think i couldnt live without a manual box.
I personally think, sports cars should be manual - always. Especially if its a porsche with the mint manual box. I dont think there is better

I the 996 turbo trade went a bit dead ??? same cars still around unsold

watch out for the MPG on the tip. Might be a shock. I had a manual before my GT3 and the guy I share a commute with bought a tip. The difference in petrol usage was amazing on a 35 mile mixed motorway/Traffic Jam run each day.
