Stolen Usernames and Password???
Discussion
Guys, just been informed by our computer gut at work that all my accounts on various sites have had their identity stolen with passwords.
Apparently we had a some kind of hacking that threw up a log on page when ever I went to certain sites and of course I logged in as usual and so someone has info on me and other personal stuff from other sites.
Most of it has been sorted, just waiting for bank to confirm things are ok, My friend also informs me that there are some posts on here that don't do me any favours, I just need to work out who to contact to remove these or delete my account and start a fresh one.
Any advice welcomed

This is how it works, just incase it happens to anyone else, although according to someone else I am guilty of it!!!!
Can't quite work that one out though??
BE VERY WARY ABOUT ACCEPTING LINKS EVEN FROM PEOPLE YOU KNOW.
HERES HOW THE SCAM WORKS.
You think you are talking to someone you know on MSN
They send you a link to view their photos.
The link brings up a FAKE MSN login page.
You enter your LOGIN and PASSWORD on the FAKE page (identical to the MSN/HOTMAIL login page).
YOU JUST LOST YOUR MSN ACCOUNT !
This also applies to any account you have online, including banks and other chat forums you have to log onto!
The hacker is then free to use your MSN ACCOUNT / EMAIL to talk with your friends.....

Best "I've offended someone on the internet and want to retract my statement" excuse ever!
You've got 3 or 4 posts in the last month, I'd suspect its a non-event.

I think it would be nice if you removed this old fella as you clearly have no idea as to the extent of this problem, maybe you will when it happens to you, it's a complete nightmare, as banks are involved too

As an I.T. manager I can confirm this is all very possible and I have seen it happen countless times to home users.
Now, I think the only reasonable thing that we can do in these circumstances is to cut the guy some slack and take what he has said at face value.
If it isn't true then I'm sure it won't take very long to realise this.
oh i clearly have a bigger clue than what you've posted above, I could give you my full credentials on my past work history but I figure it will go nowhere.
My post was a tongue in cheek comment about using a stolen account to be post things like insults etc then back out with a "it wasnt me guv"...
What you have posted above is phishing and to be perfectly honest it isnt as risky as you make out and it isnt as ground braking news either. Are you suggesting from the one hacked msn link you lost ALL your account details for ALL your online stuff?

ok slack given BUT its these kind of posts and mails that cause more problems than good. Here is the low down YOU wont lose ALL account details to hackers by a single link, potentially you'll lose the account details used - ie in this case your hotmail account information. Now what does cause problems is these kind of posts are in effect the sort of stuff than ends up in emails saying stuff like "here is a virus that msn or whoever have found and need you to forward this mail on to warn them"

Thanks
We have been told that this is a growing problem and the guy is trying to trace back all dates involved, I don't really care about the chat forums, it's the banks that is worrying the life out of me at the moment.

if you want to drop into email I'll cover some basci stuff with you if it helps - I'd suggest msn maybe
Seriously though get in touch if you'ld like to talk stuff furtherWas that aimed at me?
I think what he was trying to say in a roundabout way is that some form of trojan/key logger etc was probably downloaded on to his machine from a dodgy MSN link and thats where his details were taken from.
Exactly the same happened to a chap I used to work with about 3 months ago but in addition a trojan infected his machine at the same point and he had his bank accounts emptied in addition.
With people who are not I.T. friendly, reading between the lines is sometimes required.

Not for one minute am I suggesting all my accounts were affected, so far it's this one, HSBC, pay pal and another chat forum, where the guy seems to think it orriginated from.
Right, I am going to string someone up tomorrow morning, the guys in the yard knew about my stolen Id's and thought it would be clever and funny (for them) to log on in my name and have a wind up, one of them is following this thread and phoned me up nearly crying with laughter, maybe they will not think it so funny when I post their mobile numbers on a dogging site.
Seriously guys, sorry if they have offended anyone one but they do have warped sense of humours.
Heads will roll in the morning.
AS for the bank and paypal the computer guy is sorting everything out as I tend to make things worse.
