Hi guys

I have made the decision to save like crazy and buy a new GT3. When is up for debate. I have been advised by my local dealer in London that the waiting list for the GT3 (not the RS) is 15 months...'ish'. Having never bought as new car before I am miffed that I can't be given a straight answer BEFORE I part with ten grand's worth of deposit.

The only non standard item I mentioned was Maritime Blue paintwork - which was met with 'it might be possible' by the OPC. I notice the RS comes in funkier colours so I didn't think this was out of the ordinary, esp as it's a Porsche colour anyway.

Is this a normal dealer response, ie am I just being picky?

hi
it's my understanding that if the money is right then any colour is possible! however I do remember being told that special colours/orders add considerably to the delivery time

It seems that ordering a GT3 or RS is a bit of "sincerity test". Too many grubby speculators, too few cars etc...

If you are serious about ordering and you want the car sooner rather than later I would call round the biggest dealers and calmly convey to them that you are a real buyer with real money and that you are ready to buy if they can give you an early build slot and help arrange special colour.

Ultra - my OPC checked with the factory on a few special order colours. They WILL do maritime, tahoe, vesuvius but WONT do Gulf blue!
The special colour cars dont take any longer to build by Porsche but you DO need to spec your car 4 months earlier than normal.

I have been quoted March and April build slots for a GT3 by my two local OPC's. I think Lodon will have demand and order comitments far greater than some other deals.

As others have said, call round ALL the opc's before parting with your money. Some have orders cancelled and if you are lucky enough to ring on the day that it happens you can sometimes walk into an earlier slot. Just be careful, when I was shopping for an RS, some quoted crazy - early deliveries - then when probed they came back to the same timescales others had quoted. If you pm me, I can put you in contact with someone eho may be able to help you however try all the OPC's direct first.

Good luck!

Thanks guys, that makes sense. I won't be in a position to get the car for 2 years so I will start making serious enquiries in 9 months or so. Thanks for the suggestions.

I live in London - can anyone recommend an OPC? The two I have used in the past have been Lancasters in Cambridge and Stratford - both for parts only but pretty good, until this latest episode...

Speak to Robin at Silverstone Porsche.

TBH, if you don't want the car for 2 years, what is the problem anyway with the delivery quoted? you will not get better than an approximation that far out.

The only 997 GT3 I would be looking to buy in 2 years would be a nice low mileage used example for circa 25k-30k saving or the next generation, a 997 GT3 Mk2 or 998 GT3. If the face lifted version of the 996 GT3 is a bench mark to go by, late 2008 we should expect to see something new.
