Hello,

I'm off to the United States next month (pleasure) and i'm aware i can get a very good exchange rate with the $ at the minute.

Whilst out and about in London over the weekend (Company do down there, i live in Shropshire) i noticed rates of around $1.935 to the £ (selling). However i went online this morning to my usual sources (Lloyds Bank and Post Office) and they were only offering $1.85 (ish) to the £.

Has anyone got any good sources i could use? I'd prefer to buy online and i'd like to get around $1,000.

Any ideas?

Craig

Was asking the same question relating to the South African Rand on this thread.

I saw them selling at 1.89 today, commission fee at M and S I think it was. Think I may have a bit as I am off to the US late 2007 and the financials today were suggesting sterling may take a hit in the new year.

order it from travelex online and pick it up at the airport - should be better than post office and no comission too, they will also buy back.
WAY better than travelex at the airport, don't dismiss it till you've tried it.

If you have a Nationwide debit card you can get your money out of ATMs when you get there. No cash advance fee and the exchange rates are at least as good as you get here. Certainly been my experience in several countries.

Incidentally, I've just bought £150 of dollars from Tesco Money and got just short of $300. Only charge on top was £5 postage.

Try HSBC...but not one with a Thomas Cook inside. The rates are normally about 0.3 - 0.4 better than the post office on the US dollar.

Funny you should say that, after another couple of people said the same i ended up going with M&S..... $1.901 to the £ and free delivery as you say.

I think i got $1000 for roughly £526. Not bad... thanks for your help guys!
