heating question
Discussion
Sorry but this might be dumb.
But how do people turn on the fans for their warm/cool air blowers? I have a fan override switch stuck under the heating/cooling control that flicks the fan on or off, this was added by Trackcar a few years ago for a previous owner.
The solution works well toasty cabin and quickly cleared screen, but I wondered what is the correct way of turning the fans on?
The air con works too but again you need this switch on to get the fans cranked up to move the air. Did the original car put their fans on when the temp control switches were turned because mine do not 'click' co presume not?

Hi there, on mine you have to push the fan button in, blue button to turn the fan on to blow cold air or red (light behind the )button to turn the fan on to blow hot air.
To turn them off you just push the button again.
By button I mean the fan knob which you turn to regulate the amount of blow that the fan gives.
I am guessing ur 'fan override' switch is for the engine fans...as trackcar has been known to deal with overheating issues of the cerb.
The fans inside the car are operated by the two switches next to each other, one blue one red.
As far as heat goes...I think the heat will only blow out of the windscreen vents...and cold air throught the steering colum, passenger side and passenger footwell.

The cold and hot come from separate feeds. The fan on/off/speed knobs do not illuminate when pressed so there's no way to know if they're on unless there's quiet in the cabin (Cerb ?
). The cold feed comes in through the wheel-side wall and into a splitter which divides the air up into driver's knee, drivers' face, passenger's face etc. The hot feed (separate fan) comes from the central column side and splits into windscreen vents, drivers knee (separate ball vent) and passenger's knee. All this is on my 01 4.5LW. Don't know if it's true for other models !
This winter I have jammed cloth into the cold splitter side and am warm as toast purely on the strength of the warm air on/off/speed knob.
Hope that's not too confusing.

when you flick it a loud fan noise kicks in and warm/cold air at a good pressure comes out of the vents into the cabin/screen. I'll check it and see whats going on.
thanks for all your input. Well I reckom my buttons are bust, neither seem to do anything, certainly do not turn on the fan and there is no option to regulate the fan speed and there fore I guess temperature. The added switch just turns the fans on full bore. hey ho another thing to fix - can't be too difficult surley?
I can only tell from the noise if my fans are on so I always leave the rotary knob turned fully clockwise (ie fully on) when switched off as I often knock them, inadvertently, with my knee of all things. That way I can hear them if I catch the switch.
I find the whole heating system very frustrating, especially the continuous flow of hot air to the windscreen; great in winter but a real pain in summer. I am surprised no-one has done a mod to allow cold air to be mixed with it.

cerb manual states there are infinite temperature combinations!! it's a bit like the good old days at school, mild winter day, boiler on full tilt, all the windows open less we young boys should fall asleep during double classics.
Its worth remembering that there are 2 or 3 different styles of heating systems (vent positions). The later cars have 2 vents on the under side of the steering column, but earlier cars had one of the vents located on the transmission tunnel.
One will blow hot and the other cold. If you do not shut off the cold vents at the vent itself you will still get cold air passing through as you drive.
Also the pipe work is not very well sealed and even with the vents shut will still leak cold air in, unless you seal the pipes.
