DIY Car Spraying - New EEC Regulation !

Just a warning to all those who spray their own car :

"DUE TO THE NEW EEC REGULATION WHICH THIS GOVERNMENT WILL IMPLEMENT AS OF 2007, THE SALE OF ALL NON COMPLIANCE REFINISHING PRODUCTS WILL BE PROHIBITED AS OF JANUARY 2007.

ANYBODY WHO OWNS ANY CLASSIC CAR OR ANY VEHICLE HE INTENDS TO KEEP IN GOOD CONDITION IS ADVISED TO STOCK THEIR COLOURS. WE CAN NOT GUARANTEE CONTINUITY OF SUPPLY AFTER THAT DATE."

The upshot would seem to be - if you own a classic - go buy some paint - as it will be unavailable in 2007.

If you use a garage - there is no problem.

They're banning cellulose paints from January

Think it's the thinners and the atmosphere that is behind it.. the rest of the car industry has had to switch to water based paints..

Is that for the industry as well or just private use?

I believe it's just the home mechanic.

The trade will still be able to 'buy' and use cellulose.

It's the nanny state just looking after us - there is currently a man from the ministry in my house helping protect me from myself buy taking the edge off all my knives and forkes and he now wants to remove the pin from any drawing pins that I might be harbouring..

Just popped to an auto finishers in Newbury in my lunchhour .... They will still supply cellulose paint .. or so they told me.

Will try and buy some in January

I thought this was for garages to.
When the scooby had its ( first ) bump earlier this year, the main dealer it went to proudly told me that it would be one of the first their body shop was doing with water based paint rather than cellu ( however you spell it ). I was a bit worried about this, especialy as they have only done half the car, not a full re spray.
However, its a really good job and the match is perfect. 6 months later, my only complaint is that it will need doing again due to someone else driving into it ( again! ) but thats not the paints fault.

Pah. B+Q, fence brush and a few tins of magnolia. Kitchen egg shell finish so you can wipe the dirt off.

I know someone who painted his first car in Santex Woodshield. Looked good from a distance, thought the matt finish wasn't quite to my taste. Was cheap though!

No it was a Datsun..... So it was made of rust and P38
