I'm not ripplingly fit (understatement) and dont want to find that when I get to the medical and fail.
Any comments and advice, apart from "get fit" because i'm trying to do that anyway.
Cheers

Depends on your gp.
All they check is blood pressure, eyes and reflexes (whacking your knees with a hammer), Well thats all they checked on me.
My gp charges £65 for a medical but on looking at what they had to do for the MSA they only charged me £15.

What do you mean by not rippingly fit? I'm not rippingly fit but I am quite healthy.
You need to have reasonably good blood pressure for your age, not be colour blind although you can get round this with a trip to MSA HQ and a flag test. Not diabetic and have good vision when corrected. They also ask about any previous medical problems even mental ones although you need to have a screw loose to contemplate racing and the expense incured.

Adam, it seems you didn't have a full medical, when was your last one(or in your case I would suspect your first) as the criteria seems to change slightly each year.

Tim, i had my first medical for racing, '97. Family gp so they might have filled all the other stuff in.
I also had a full medical when i worked for MOD - including the cup and cough, a couple of years ago, RAF nurse this time.
Im guessing that the MSA were happy with my medical as they've not asked for it to be redone.

The MSA medical wont be anything like the MOD one. You wont need another MSA licence untill you are 45 years old, some time away for you, a long time ago for me.

When I had my medical for my licence a couple of months ago my GP said that they want to know you can see where your going and whats around you, that you are capable of controlling a car and that your not likely to drop dead in the drivers seat from the stress and excitement.

I had my medical 5 years ago, and it cost 65 quid !!! i was a bit worried as I had the hang over from hell and was still a bit pished....

I think the urine test was neat vodka red bull hehe in fact it did show up some thing odd but when tested later at my gp was fine.

the balance test was a laugh...

I'm type 2 diabetic, i.e. I don't take insulin, will this be a problem? (apologies for thread hijack!!)

From other threads we have established that I can't spell when typing on a keyboard.

Correct, it wasn't part of the medical the last time I had one.
