Horrible petrol station people

I just filled up about 2 hours ago and spent 40 quid on Vpower at my local petrol station. Now if you go into next or PC world or any other 'branded' high street place and pay £40 quid for something they are usually quite pleasant. (Usually).
Why on earth are petrol satation people often horrible, the big bird behind the counter burped not once but twice right in front of me, snatched the 40 sheets, when I light heartedly remarked that vpower had gone up in price she said "put the cheap stuff in then!"

Also seem to have a habit of ignoring you whilst talking to their "colleague", or maybe that's just me.
Slightly embarrassed to admit this but a couple of years ago (I'm 26 now) I got ID'd for petrol. I'd just filled my car up and was then asked if I could prove I was over 16 whilst trying to pay. Never quite lived that down.

It's the fact that I spend loads of my money on petrol and usually in the same 2 or 3 places, the birds at the local offy are much more welcoming.
Like the old fart at the texaco garage I have boycotted, went in for a bottle of rolla cola a while back and she tried to charge me £2.80, not even a premium brand I asked if she was having a laff, the response "if you don't like the prices go f**ck off somewhere else", this was a place I used to spend upto £200 - £250 a month. My frigging council tax is less than that!

The other day and i was in a peccy station filling up a works car - with a 95litre tankful of V-Power so we're talking about £90 of fuel.
The guy serving was in his early 20's, spotty, and was texting whilst (slowly) serving the 4 customers in front of me.
When i walked up to the desk he took a call on his mobile and held his finger up in a 'one minute' gesture.
I had about 5 people behind me, and i was in a rush, so i lent over to him and shouted (and i do have a very loud voice, and am 6'3 and 16st so can be imposing i suppose)
"WOULD YOU MIND GETTING OFF YOUR
ING PHONE AND SERVING ME?"
Oddly, he put the phone down and served me then. Though i swear he mumbled 'wanker' under his breath as i left.
Is it really so hard to actually serve someone? Christ i was in a shitty mood afte that.....

Some of the attitudes of the staff described above are indeed shitty. I guess some of it is down to the fact that everybody needs petrol and as long as you have a good location you can treat your customers however you like and you will still turn a profit.
The amount of petrol theft at the place I worked was unbelievable and the stupid sods didnt even seem that bothered. One girl regularly lost about £400 a week on her shift due to driveoffs!

That is just shoplifting that probably most places would suffer anyway, its the fact that some petrol stations only seem to employ shitty people. I have done my fair share of shitty jobs when I was younger but I was never horrible with people even if they were with me!

I totally agree I also spent my college years doing comedy/awful jobs for next to nothing and would always try and treat people nicely. (I actually used to work with a load of nutters - one guy was quite unstable and ended up putting a baseball bat through the windscreen of a car when it tried to drive off without paying! Kind of amazed me that people were willing to knife me/get nicked etc for a bloody pack of fags and a 12 pack! )

I did that too, as my first job. Pound 37 an hour.
And I tried to be nice to the customers. That, after all, was part of what I was paid for.
The same, in fact, as in the current job.
I wonder if there is a correlation between giving a shit about doing your job well, and not staying in the bagpacking/petrol station jobs.

She used to work in my local petrol station but the Indian family that took over a few months ago sacker her.
The service is now amazing - the chap who I assume is the father can keep a queue of 5 or 6 people engaged in friendly chat while the EPOS systems are doing their thing
