If I was to have a rant I would make two points:

1) How the flippin 'eck are Police Drivers supposed to be able to respond to an emergency if they are never allowed to practice.

2) Can't BRAKE see the above as obvious?

They make the same utterly predictable dumb comment every time.

As to an NIP? Its an administrative error in this case. Bloke was in uniform driving a stickered up police car. If necessary with access to the siren/lights - although the article doesn't mention whether or not these were on. I presume not. He was on a scheduled test run. The only fly in the ointment was a minor change in route that one force didn't know about. A very minor administrative cock-up that should be a non-story.

It does sound like someone is trying to worm out of a ticket with the old "We changed our plan and didn't tell anyone" excuse. But presumably this guy is an advanced driver, so it would be hypocritical of me to criticise And is it actually an accident blackspot, or just where they park a scamera?

This bit of bollox really gets me:

Article said:
Road safety charity Brake last night condemned the use of excessive speed on public roads.

"The police do a fantastic job at protecting lives, but this can be undermined by officers who unnecessarily put lives at risk by driving at terrifyingly dangerous speeds when there is not an emergency," said a spokesman.

"Police should be enforcing the law, not breaking it, and they should be treated in exactly the same way as any other driver."

"Terrifyingly dangerous"? WTF? These people really need to get out moreyes

Ah, but it terrifies the BRAKE people. They worry that the man with the red flag will get run over - Streaky

Perhaps someone should ask Brake how they think the police ought to train to respond to 999 calls.. Perhaps by sitting in a nice quiet room, pretending to drive...

If it so "terrifies" them, they surely have no place on the road or to be in a position to preach to others. They should stick to public transport and find something or someone else to irritate.

Maybe..

Perhaps we could take the list of all those who are in BRAKE, then, when they call 999, despatch tell the officer/ambulance to ensure they obey all the highway code, speed limits and red lights...... They will soon die out...
