Hi all, have a problem with a friends PC who i was tidying up this morning. Installed AVG free anti virus and ran Spybot S&D with no big problems, AVG found a few things but managed to clear them all up. The problems only started when the PC was rebooted. When I try to log into XP, the system acts like it is logging you in, but then it starts the log off procedures. Says that it is saving all your data and logs you off. What can be the issue, any ideas?
Thanks

Do this:

When "select user" page comes up, press Control + Alt + Del keys twice. This will remove the funky XP user selection and bring up the old fashioned 2k/NT4 style one.

Replace the username with Administrator, enter the Admin password.

If you can login with that account then I'd suggest the profile has become screwed up. Can be tricky to repair and for a home user might be simple to just migrate the data to a new account and delete the old one.
