E28 BMW Racing...

I am preparing a E28 M535i for racing next season and am wondering if there are any other PH'ers out there who have either prepped a good old E28, or have raced one?

Yes, I know its a big heavy old beastie, but she's been with me for a while now and I couldn't sell her, so I've decided to race her instead!

Thanks to a fellow PH'er I've been pointed in the direction of one good mechanic, however I'm really after some advice on what works, what doesn't etc...if you don't mind:-)

The weekest point of E28 (and E34 which has same front suspension) are front suspension bushes.
As a starting point replace Upper and Lower control arms and fit PowerFlex polyurethine bushes.

Also replace engine and gearbox rubber mounts - these will be worn out and may fail on track.

The next thing is brakes. Late E34 M5 4-pot brembo calipers and discs are straight fit as well as other E34 and E31 8 series front brakes. You will end up with 320mm brake discs and bigger calipers.
Make sure to upgrade brake cylinder to E32 7 series spec as standard E28 is not big enough.
Wheels have to be at least 16 inches to accomodate bigger discs.

M535 should have limited slip diff. If not get one from M5.
