Just writing things from the point of view of a numpty.

Will be interesting to see if and how they answer this.

****

Hi there.

I would just like to advise you that your safety cameras seem to be faulty.

I was driving down the A30 from Launceston the other day (driving at 60 in a 70 on the Dual NSL, 10MPH under the speed limit) when a white van man overtook me at around 70MPH and then suddenly cut in front of me almost forcing me off the road.

At the time I was passing one of your safety cameras and it didnt go off.

Now I understand the neither the van driver or myself was going over the speed limit, but he did do somthing almost fatally dangerous. I fail to understand why your camera didnt pick this up as they are supposed to be safety cameras!

Also at 02:00 I was driving to Bracknell down the A303. The fog was so thick that I could barely see past the end of my car. However I was going far too fast for the prevailing conditions yet once again, your safety cameras failed to go off when I passed them!

Please could you get them repaired as we are suffering from a severe lack of safety on the road and all these cameras seem to do is catch people speeding!

I feel I have been misled by the government as I believed they had done away with speed cameras years ago in place of these safety cameras. it does not help when the safety cameras, surely by name designed to pick up instances of dangerous driving, fail to work.

Yours,

Chris.

In a shameless rip off of the Brilliant soulpatches email, i too have done one to a scamera partnership.
Heres what i sent:

Dear Miss ********,
I was travelling in north wales along a road equipped with safety cameras, on wednesday. I cannot remember the road name at the moment, but can look it up if necessary.

As i was saying, i was travelling along the road and going towards a safety camera zone, there were two safety cameras, one on the left side of the road, and one on the opposite side about 200metres away.

As i approached the camera, i wasnt speeding, the road was if i remember correctly a national speed limit road,(and i was travelling at 45mph), a big white van overtook me, nearly colliding with me, and then proceeded to cut me up, in his haste to avoid oncoming traffic. I didnt get the number as my eyesight isnt what it was.

This occured at approximately 0730am and it was somewhat foggy. The van then proceed to overtake another car in front of me using the same tactics.

Now, correct me if i am wrong, but are not these cameras supposed to prevent this kind of behaviour?
Incidentally, neither of the cameras appeared to flash, so i presume his dangerous manouvre was not caught on film? I must say, that if this IS the case, then i am singularly unimpressed by the claim that these are safety cameras. They certainly did nothing to enforce my safety on that morning, or are you only interested in catching people who speed?

Whether or not the van was actually speeding, i cannot say, i presume not, as neither of the cameras flashed. If this policy of cameras everywhere is supposed to make the roads safer for pensioners such as myself,i can tell you now, i shall withdraw my support for them, as it does not appear to be working.

I would appreciate any reply adressing the point raised in my complaint.

Yours Alfred P.

Presumably Alfreds eyesight is so bad he didnt notice that either.

Safer driver though by the sounds of it. Who needs eyesight when you drive under the speed limit?!

Are the cameras above the M25 around Heathrow "safety" cameras?

I can't see any difference in that part of the M25 over any other part of the road. I assume there must have been a fatal accident every few hundred yards on that bit of road.
