Clonking sorted out, may help fellow 'clonkers'
Discussion
One of my previous posts was to ask whether any fellow chim owners suffered clonking when going over lumps in the road, there were a few replies and generally "They all do that sir"
However, after I dropped the exhaust down today, I took the opportunity to replace fluids in both the gearbox and diff, and to get the exhaust down, the anti roll bar had to be dropped.
I didn't notice any slack in it, but suffice to say, after putting it back on, I checked and tightened the nuts correctly, lo and behold, absolutely no clonking at all. Nice easy fix.
And the diff doesn't whine after some good fresh fluid in there.

Mike, sounds like you've been busy
Has the 'clonking' gone completely or can't you hear it anymore after exhaust mod
Mike
ps give us a bell for that beer soon.

Gone completely Mike, I think
Sorry, been flat out in work, what with it being the silly season.
I'll give you a ring soon.
I also had a 'clonk' a year or so ago, and after a service where the a-roll bar was dropped, the clonk dissapeared. It did return about a year later, so, thinking that it was possibly due to work drop-links, I invested in a smart rose-jointed pair from Mr Heath's Emporium. All OK at the mo.

my clonk started shen my Steve Heath ATB drop link snapped off....faulty rosejoint apparently.
There wasn't a clonk at the rear though - and I think you did say on PH that they had transformed the handling.
And IIRC, your car is still running the rear SH droplinks without any problems for over a year now.
About a year ago, I had a 'clonking' noise coming from the car when going over bumps. It was diagnosed at it's service as a loose anti-roll bar. Once tightened, the noise was gone.
About a month ago, the noise returned. I assumed a similar problem and made a note to mention it when I got it serviced after Christmas. The car hasn't been driven much in the last month as the weather has been lousy but it was a beautiful day on Monday and I couldn't resist.
About ten miles of relaxed driving later, there was a loud 'crack' and a large 'jolt' as the offside front shock absorber completely snapped in half, dropping the wing onto the wheel and the splitter onto the tarmac at about 30 mph. Truth to tell, there was no great drama; I was on a quiet road with no-one about and stopped safely. I got out, looked at the wheel wedged up under the wheel arch and wondered how it might have turned out if I had been doing more than twice that speed on a busy motorway when it collapsed.
I’ve owned the car 2 years and have covered 21,000 miles in it. I’m familiar with the feel of the car and didn’t notice any handling issues until the failure occurred.
I would suggest that if you’ve got a noise such as this coming from the car that you check it out to be on the safe side. I wrongly assumed that my protesting shock absorber was an occasionally knocking anti-roll bar; I won’t be doing that again!!!!
