Not on the provisional list. brands suffers from being expensive. even castle coombe costs more to hire for a day than Pembrey for the weekend.

You tend to find that every year one circuit or another is missing, it generally takes a couple of years to get round them all

What about Donington and Thruxton G, they've not appeared in our Series since it began in 2005? It would be great to see some more of the "better known" circuits on our list for 2007. You'd have thought that we'd get a reasonable price from MSV for Brands since we're racing at Snett,Oulton and Cadwell!

'We' don't figure in the cost negotiations which are held between the organising club, the BRSCC, and the circuit owners. We can only race at meetings arranged by the organising club(s) and if they don't hire the circuits....

I suspect that the BRSCC is shying away from Brands on the basis of cost, from Combe on the basis of both cost and because it now organises its own meetings, and from Donington, Thruxton and Croft because they are operated by BARC. If true then one starts to wonder whether a strong allegiance with a single club is that beneficial these days. It will be very interesting to see BRSCC's full calendar when it comes out.

Brands is a great shame as we always get great local support - ditto Combe has the biggest crowds of any circuit for club meetings and they seem to have a genuine affection for the Tuscans. I guess John could always approach the Castle Combe club direct, but last year's grid numbers will do little to help - Combe want to run with as full grids as possible for every race.

I also thought John considered Cadwell to be off limits for Tuscans after a terrible accident there some years back (parts of car in the grandstand). Fabulous circuit, but personally I think it too narrow (and lacking run off) for cars as quick and lairy as the Class A Tuscans. I would much rather see Croft than Cadwell (sorry Graham, I know you love Cadwell).

A mixed bag would be my reaction - some great circuits, some less so. I think the selection is likely to be down to limitations related to the BRSCC rather than JR

would be nice to see the cars back at Knockhill, but I guess too far for most of the drivers...except Jes! I guess we've seen the last of TVR racing at KH

I understand the position of the "Club" organising the circuits, what I'm saying is that they should have enough clout to put a reasonably priced package together of the MSV cicuits to include Brands. I think some of the other BRSCC organised Series have got Brands in their calendar for next year?

Your point about the circuits under BARC as opopsed to BRSCC is a very valid one and indeed is appearing to act as a barrier, which is a great shame. Other than perhaps running under an SRO, I don't know the solution to that?

With Castle Combe, their Special GT grids were certainly building up last year, so I guess it would now not be possible to run our own class within their race. In terms of our own grid numbers though, things are looking good for next year.I shall certainly miss Brands and Combe if we don't race there next year and again agree with you that the crowds at those circuits in particular do love the Tuscans - shame!

BTW, depsite it being a mixed bag, I'm not suggesting at all that it's JR's fault. I'm sure he'll do whatever he can to get the best possible mix for us, to incentivise us to come out and play, especially as the potential grid numbers are increasing to very respectable levels.

MSV charges Brands at a premium. BRSCC I suspect will only hire the circuit for a very few days, and then will only include series where they are getting 30 car grids to ensure they break even. We may be viewed as lacking the track record to be included.

Very provisionally and subject to change I will be looking for somewhere else to chug round for 2007 as these dates and work only allow me to do the first 2 meetings. Oh well, c'est la vie. Might give drag racing a crack. Wife says I always look good in a dress and I've got the legs for it.
Rgds and merry Christmas and happy new year to anyone who even know who I am.

Circuit Ownership/Operators

BARC

Mallory Park
Thruxton
Croft
Pembrey

MSV

Brands Hatch
Cadwell Park
Snetterton
Oulton Park

I dont think its so much who operated the circuits as a pure financial consideration by BRSCC. They need to make a profit or at the very least break even.

Brands, coombe and donny are expensive to hire and coombe is more than twice castle coombe to hire. some of them have quite restrictive Planning rules as well that reduce the available dates, so there may not be the availability as we are looking for double headers.

in 5 years I've only been to Thruxton, coombe and donny once...

I think its a reasonable selection, also we asked for double headers and thats whats on the list, so other than Tim who's buggered by work We should all get behind john and go for it. They are all good circuits. If we get 20-30 cars at each of those then in 08 we should be able to dictate where we want to play

As for cadwell, yes part of its narrow but half of it is quite wide. I thought it was PW that didnt like cadwell after an off and the wheel in the crowd was snett? They run stuff at cadwell thats quicker than a tuscan. nd dont forget the superbikes !!!!

Graham - the debate is whether being under the BRSCC umbrella places certain restrictions, not about supporting or not supporting what is on offer.

The wheel in the crowd was Combe. The entire engine in the grandstand was Cadwell (unless JR was telling me porkies). It was where I made my race debut in 2003 in a Caterham - its a great circuit but imho better suited to bikes and smaller cars. Others will have different views....

I hadn't appreciated that Mallory and Pembrey were under BARC. Now I'm confused, as apart from the cost debate, we're back to my original question as to why we can't seem to get Donny or Thruxton in our Series. I do however also understand the serious restrictions (noise etc) that Thruxton suffer from. Any further thoughts would be welcomed.

I'm sure you're right Andy. Being pretty new to this game, I'm still trying to work out how it comes together really. As I was suggesting earlier in this thread, i'd of thought that financially you'd get a better package if you included a number of MSV circuits in your calendar, as opposed to just wanting Brands, as that way you're supporting them accross the board. Perhaps Brands is just so popular that they don't need to worry about that.

I got the point mate, it would appear that Mr P wants to price everyone out so that he can take over the lot.
racing
testing
trackdays... he's already making a move on the TD guys ....its all about money with him! Our own national "Bernie". I'm sure he'd LOVE the comparison.

It does seem that way, which is a shame if that is the case. However, he's doing very well in attracting the likes of WTCC and A1GP etc to Brands. Bound to get excellent crowds, in turn motivating mere mortals to want to track day their car there, forcing the TD's to pay more to satisfy demand, etc., etc!

Perhaps one has to congratulate James Tucker for getting in on the action with Britcar as support races for A1GP.
