Good Lord - Even I thought that the later Speed 6 engines were cured - obviously not.

I'll hold judgement until the diagnostic / investigation is completed. If it is followers it is the first "new" S6 I have heard of that has had that problem - specifically the first Sagaris.

There is a loud tapping noise coming from the cam cover.

I think that's pretty conclusive.

You may be premature in condemning a recent Speed 6 so readily. Are you sure it's not just a big tickin noise? - this time of year it's easy to mistake a turkey for a 'big tickin'!

So sorry to hear this, what a start to ownership, and sounds unique so far. But no comfort I know.

scratchchin
Hopefully it's 'just' something like a defective shim gone walkabout.

It was just mine for the weekend, so back it goes.

Woooah, woooah, woooah, wooooah, hold yer horses there everybody!

The car in question looks suspiciously like the "Nivea" Blue Sag.....

www.pistonheads.com/sales/106434.htm

.... is this the one you have just bought and picked up?

If it is then that car was built waaay before being registered as a 55 plate. It was one of the first Sag's to be produced by TVR. The car was an unregistered showcar for a substantial period of time, and when i had my 2005 '05' T350, that saggy was being used specifically for that purpose. IIRC it was actually built mid to late 2005 BEFORE Smolenski stopped production of the Saggy to correct all the errors.

The car appeared in the PH classifieds in January of this year(2006) after the company who owned it had finished it. It was beign sold as 'unregistered' for £43k.

So, i doubt it had the upgraded finger followers or anything else. So it's doubtful it's got the revised engine in it.

Worth noting all the above before jumping to conclusions.

For the second time, I don't own it, however I can tell you it's a London/SE supplied car, not one from Nottingham, and isn't currently for sale.

So, no, it's not that one you have posted.

Apologies, I presumed it was that one, becasue you put a picture of it up in your original thread here:

No. If you look at where that picture is linked from you'll find it's nothing to do with Nottingham.

It's done 5000 miles and shagged it's engine whilst being lazily driven back (as it was late and I was tired) from Central to South London in 30mph limits.

I could go on with all the other things that the RAC bloke also found wrong with it when he was looking at it, but don't see the point. It's shagged.

That is awful news. Was it a private or dealer purchase? Although I know its not the point, at least it is under warranty.

Any idea how the last owner treated it? (i.e. maybe a PHer who you know treated it extra gently or an unknown quantity) Still shouldn't have gone pop though.

Did you have time before, the engine went lame, to form any opinion of the cars ability?

I know you are have a fondness for Nobles - just wondered how you thought the Sagaris compared.

Not really as I must have only driven it for 30 odd miles in 30mph roads. To be honest, what opinion I did form was mainly negative.

I hate to say it, but if that was representative of the absolute best TVR could turn out, it concurs with their current state. It was a complete dissapointment, having lusted over TVRs as a kid, and having been a TVRCC member for many years now.

I don't really feel here is the correct place to further discuss what was wrong with it, especially given some of the threads in the general section over people's jobs at the factory, but given it was/is a £60k car, some of the things I found were shocking.

In the positive, I can list a few things. It handled reasonably well around town, and had a nice sounding engine whilst it lasted.

Surely a rental sagaris isn't likely to best represent the brand though, bet the customers of that company don't always give it a proper warm up etc.

Also just because the AA man says something doesn't make it true either as many aren't the greatest mechanics in the world, one my dad called out for his car problems he couldn't even change a fuse.

Should have done more than 5k though but then I'm sure I heard of some similar cars like Nobles having engine problems when relatively new.
