520SX... It's alive
Discussion
Well fired up the supercharged 5.2 litre V8 today for the first time in the car. Started easily as well. Running the detuned spec so only around 480-500 lb/ft of torque and 460-70 bhp.
One small water leak to sort out - gasket needs replacing on the water hose flange and the fuel pumps are having difficulty maintaining pressure so that needs looking at and uprating with bigger pumps. Also got a bit of belt squeal at idle. Something to do over Xmas.
The throttle response is incredible. Just touch the throttle and the engine revs. So much so that I'm going to fit an additional return spring as once the throttle is open it doesn't want to close because of the boost.

Compression must be quite high, what boost are you hoping to use with the chargecooler?

Getting around 9psi boost but the air charge wasn't going above 29 C. The Chargecooler is the limiting factor and an improved design is in the pipeline that should get the engine into the 500+ bhp range. At least that was what the dyno experiments gave. I'll run this spec for this year's campaign and go for the hike in 2008... if it hasn't scared me in the meantime.

Sounds good already
You must be heading for 13:1 c/r so an air intake charge of 29 c is really low so the coolers working well. Are these dyno readings or road readings? I did a 5.1 turbo and predicted 500 lbs/ft torque from 2100 rpm so you will certainly be in the same ball park if not better at those low rpm's. The turbo engine had a much higher intake charge, it would boil water if the chargecooler pump wasn't swutched on! You're going to have a lot of low down grunt
Edited to say,
I had managed to get my compression down to 9:1.

They are dyno readings. The real breakthrough was John Eales convincing me that we needed a set of special pistons to reduce the CR and prevent detonation. getting the pistons made delayed things by a couple of months but it was worth it. John was really pleased with the results and we think there is more to come. As I said, already planning the next two power hikes. Oh yes..... it has loads of low down torque. 320 lb/ft at 2000. 400 at 3000....
Thanks for the update. We are all watching with interest
Hope you can get it to the next Fest. I predict big crowds!

Even at these lowly levels which will be the loudest? The insane laughter or screams of fear? Hope you can get it to the next Fest. I predict big crowds!

This would look good under the bonnet of my SEAC...
