Hi all.

I've recently fitted the Mod Wise hot start kit (which has done its job well so far!) but the battery is going flat after less than a week. I've charged the battery for 12 hours when it's been flat, and the car's been fine, but less than a week later and it's needed a re-charge again!

Anyone else had a problem like this, or is it just me thinking it's changed since I fitted it?

Ta,
James.

This shouldn't be possible as the only live feed into the kit goes into the switch side of the relay and no further (unless the relay coil is closed).

Might be worth double checking the install though to be sure. There's a guide here.

Maybe you have disturbed something else while down in that jumble of wiring. The relay is only putting back the system to the correct spec.

What is the voltage across your battery when the engine is running? 11.5 volts would indicate a broken 100A fuse.

There's your problem. Car batteries don't like being flattened. And left flat. They never really work properly again, and won't hold a charge. If they're already a couple of years old, then that's your lot. New battery time. Sorry.

For all the PHers that have fitted the piece of wizardry that is the Hot Start Kit (me being one), I don't recall anyone else having this problem. Chances are that (a) you've disturbed something, (b) your battery is an ex-battery or (c) all of the above...

Agreed. The hot start kit was fitted by my trusty Indy at a few weeks ago while some other work was being done. I had a flat battery 3 days later and wondered if this was connected.
A meter showed showed otherwise and a new drain had been introduced while rummaging down there. Sorted that and its now fine.

Well I guess that I must have disturbed something, as the battery only went in six months ago. I'll have to get down on my knees and have a rummage! Cheers!
