Does anyone know if these can be stripped, cleaned and re-greased or are they sealed for life?

from what i have seen there sealed for life pete, but thats not to say you cannot squirt some motorcycle chain lube/spray grease on the joints and hope it creeps past the knackered seals, worth a go.

And as mine are I believe totally knackered, how much of a job is it to going to cost me for my local indie to replace them...

i dont know how much the unit is,but looks like a piece of p*ss to change.when you get the new one fitted keep it sprayed often with some kind of lube, its right in the firing line of all the road crap,a gaiter system is better methinks.

I've just had this. My steering was all notchy so I took them off, cleaned them and gave them a good soaking, oiling and refitting. Although the joints felt a bit better, they were not. Ended up replacing them both (£93 TVRcarparts) - fixed. A gaiter arrangement can be used with those after market steering boots you get from motor factors, sick squid for a pair. Spray some copper crest inside them before cable tieing the ends up. Bonzer!!!
If you do try to clean them, the movement should be silky smooth, with no "graunchiness" at all. New ones feel quite stiff, but the stiffness is linear throughout their movement.

Thanks, I'll take em off , clean them then cook in melted grease & see if they are any good. Lengths of bike inner tube & jubilee clips should keep them clean once they are back on.
Thanks for the advice

When repainting teh chassis recently I covered this joint in Castrol LM grease to protect the joint. The joint doesn't look sealed to me!

Yes David & they are only a just down the road from me. If mine are shot I'll take one down & compare it.
