I am thinking of fitting an oil temp gauge - the only important thing they forgot when the dash was designed.

Has anybody done it yet ?
If so how did you proceed ?

Thanks in advance for the replies/comments.

First off you need a sender unit in the sump, some cars have this as standard. I have one in my sump (had new engine fitted recently) all though I have yet to connect it to a suitable guage.

Its probably best to find a late model sump and fit to your engine, in theory you can tap a new hole for the sensor but you could destroy a perfectly good sump in the process.

After that connecting sender unit to guage should be straight forward (depends on your level of electrical know how realy).

Best best is to look at the digital spa dials - will fit in the hole where you oil pressure guage currently is, and give you digital readouts of both temp and pressure for oil.

You can also set alarms on them for upper and lower parameters.

Edited to say will fit in the hole on early dash style 944's not sure about later ones
