XP Pro Rebuild Issues
Discussion
Hi All,
Sorry to ask what will probably be a very simple question to answer.....
Recently my ThinkPad T42 was running very slow (XP Pro SP2) so I decided to remove all my files to my external HD and to restore it to factory settings (It left the factory before SP2 was released).
When it ran the restore it installed the SP2 automatically
Since then its not been behaving itself and quite often requires multiple reboots in order for IE6 to run. It has a problem loading up the Symantec (Corporate edition) AV etc.
I can't find my XP discs but I could try to restore it to factory settings again, then reloading all the drivers etc.
I'm hoping this will cure it I just wondered if any one had any ideas on why its failing to boot properly 95% of the time. Once i've got it running I can get out on the internet, play music etc.
Just a strange one! Has anyone got any suggestions?
Regards,
Phill

Ahh, an IBM.
Try the factory restore (big blue button) again; if you do find a puka XP CD and it's acompanying driver CD I'd use those for a more long term solution. The factory restore process always seemed to take longer than reinstall + drivers and after 6 months always seemed to go bang.
As to why it's not booting properly, just to be on the safe side, once you've got XP loaded open 'My Computer' right click C: and select properties, go to the Tools tab and the top button should be for Disk error checking? Click check now, in the little window that pops up select the option that checks the disk for bad sectors. Reboot when prompted.

Ah interesting i'll give that a try when I get home.
A clean build will suit me.... i've got the rest of this week off so I can do it in the background while i'm doing other little jobs about the house.
Thanks,
Phill

Cheers Mate, I lend them to my Dad who seems to have mislaid them! bah!
I'll see how I get on without them, if I struggle i'll drop you an email - Obviously putting some beer tokens in the post to cover postage.
