8.30am this morning had next door banging on my door, "about this car"..here we go....!
Wakes her husband up everytime I start it up, she spilt her coffee and the people accross the road nearly fell off of a ladder! Her hubby works nights. I work from home and go out 1-3 times a week, is it me? are they being petty? And she said it was inconsiderate to the old lady the other side. So we asked the "old lady" the other side, who said she thought the Cerb was fantastic, and that life was for living and enjoying.
Anyone else have high spirited fun next door neighbors like mine?

Families with noisy kids on both sides of our place. The one side (8 kids) is pretty unruly and the Mum feels screaming at them the most effective means of control. I can hear it through the brick wall shared between our houses over the telly! The other side's kids can, on weekends, match them for noise when they're out playing the garden. Winter seems to have tamed that a bit. 
On that basis, I come and go in the Cerb when I jolly well please, although I've never had any complaints.

With the previous toy car, I used to start it up when I got into it, then do the harnesses up while the car idled for those 30 secs.
Once though, my wife had left something in the house and got out to retrieve it. The car was idling for about 2 mins, and to be honest it was loud and I should have turned it off. Anyway, new neighbour (not next door) came over effing and blinding about who do I think I am - I must think I'm someone special etc etc. Anyway, being strapped into a Caterham does leave you feeling rather vulnerable in the event someone wants to attack you, so to pre-empt my becoming a punchbag (he was very aggressive) I unbuckled, got out and explained rather heatedly (to the point that my wife, having come out of the house, thought I was going to rip his head off) that had the guy come over and politely asked me to turn it off, I would have done so with an apology but having suffered his line of abuse I was in the mood for putting him through the front window of his house if he didn't leave immediately.
He did.
... And returned later that day (after we'd got home) to apologise, and to of course agree with me that he should have asked politely, and (further) to explain that he had lost his business recently which had led to his having been drinking that morning. I resisted tempation to remind him that it was indeed "morning" (only 10am) when he'd made his first approach and just shook hands and closed the door.
Other than that, neighbours have always been quite enthusiastic about my toy cars.

Most of these peasants have lawn mowers that are louder and cut their pretty little squared of grass at 9am on a Sunday morning.
Anybody says that to me and they WILL get told to F'k off! Until they make loud cars illegal they can stick it where the sun doesn't shine!
Holier than though NIMBYs are second only to god squadders in my list!

And another story (hope this doesn't tarnish people's opinion of me)... I used to play drums in various bands. When living with my parents in my teens and early 20s I would play/practice in my bedroom with the double-glazed windows shut, and never after 7pm (agreed rules with my parents).
Anyway, despite the double-glazing, you could hear my playing some serious distance away from the house (1/4 mile or more) and yet I never had the slightest sniff of upset from any of the neighbours. My parents used to talk about my playing to the neighbours. They would prompt the conversation as a way of gauging the neighbours' acceptance or otherwise, and truly never heard a negative word about the noise... although some smart-alec did once mention I was out of time.
Anyway, despite the double-glazing, you could hear my playing some serious distance away from the house (1/4 mile or more) and yet I never had the slightest sniff of upset from any of the neighbours. My parents used to talk about my playing to the neighbours. They would prompt the conversation as a way of gauging the neighbours' acceptance or otherwise, and truly never heard a negative word about the noise... although some smart-alec did once mention I was out of time.

they also had his brother staying with them all summer during a messy divorce, and he had some clapped out old ford that at 6 every morning he woke me and my wife trying for a good ten mins to start its filthy oil burning diesel engine, we never complained, we are nice people, understanding, the guy was obviously going through enough...and now this...green eyed monster???

Didn't mention, but the eldest daughter of my neighbour (with only two kids) plays drums. I therefore feel no guilt about putting the sports pipes on my Aprilia.

Sometimes, despite the pettiness every right-minded person will think of themselves, you just have to remind people about their own transgressions, as above, to put things into perspective for them. Sort of "resetting" their expectations of the world. You're hardly a nuisance given the infrequency of your usage, especially compared with their brother/in-law. Don't talk to me about neighbors, one side has reported me to the council for putting a log cabin at the bottom of my garden "with electrics and air-conditioning" so the letter states. the other has noisy kids and rabbits that bang and thump in their hutches at all hours of the night. I've had no complaints about the noise of my Cerbera-decated, but now I've swopped to a Sagaris, not quite as loud. But if Mars pops round to show me his new wheels

The first complained bitterly about the noise of my old Capri. I'd just spent 9 months rebuilding it, including a long stroke 3.0 engine and had instructions from the engine builder to run it for 2500 revs for 20 mins. They called the police after I had it running for 5 mins as I was ruining their Sunday afternoon (I'd waitied until about 5pm). The copper turned out to be quite sympathetic.
They then complained to the council regularly, so I sold the Capri and bought the Cerbera
The other neighbour then spray painted his fence and every panel on my car with green fence paint a week after I bought the car. As the windows were open he painted the interior as well. He was still painting it (the fence and car)when I walked outside and didn't believe he'd done it.
It took three hours of cleaning and a professional valet to put it back to how it was when I got it.
A very weak apology after about 3 hours and so far he's refused to pay for the valet.

I am a little careful in leaving it running on idle. They are very loud and you need to take other peoples fears and lifestyles into account. I figure as long as you don't sit there revving the arse off it like some chavved up 17yr old in his first Nova then you will be OK.

So...i'm selling a sierra cosworth, the young couple are really nice and they're having a good look round it, next thing the girl turns round to me and says "Why is there a man over the road waving his hands at me and gesturing no don't buy it" i said "eh", could not beleive it. They're really jealous cos we have nice cars, we had the drive block paved and spend money on the house and stuff, but we work very hard for the stuff we have, and what p***es me off the most, is that about a month previous they had a rover that the (so called) mechanic son in law has been trying to get running for weeks.
So i went over and sorted it out for them.
To be honest i was ready to have a war with him, but the Missus decided i didn't want to do that.

Well I think I've got the ultimate test. I have a noise abatement officer living opposite. Obviously I don't take the piss, well not all the time but if he's out and about and I'm off for some fun then eye contact is always made.
Now sometimes she starts up nice and quiet (well you know what I mean) but sometine she gives the two gun salute (love to be standing behind when she does that).
He shakes his head and rolls his eyes, still smiling though, so I give him a big grin and shrug of the shoulders as if to say hey it's the price I have to pay. He wonders over, still smiling and mentions the artilary, I mention that it must be running a bit rich as I haven't used it much (yeah right!). He says well it is very noisey to which I reply but legal, He nods and mentions that the back fires aren't strictly normal and very similar to gun fire, to which I agree.
He says they have regular complaints about the sound of shot guns from the adjoining farm land with farmers putting paid to bugs and his mates and my car could come in for similar complaint. I ask what the outcome was for the farmers to which he replied well nothing as the fire arms they possess are licensed and they are doing nothing illegal by using them. Pointing to my tax disk I say, that's a relief so am I and I've even got an MOT to match.
I thank him for reasuring me that I'm all legal and tootle off with a cheery wave.
The moral of the storey then for all those that complain about the trials of our Cerbera ownership is - life's too short,I'm legal so live and let live but mate stop your f@cking dog barking at two in the morning.

Ooh, you've changed names. That caught me out to begin with. maybe with the two running on the front It will really piss them off.I'll be there although it's not as loud as yours was. I've still never heard a car as loud as your old Cerb. Most incredible noise.
